Quickinstall bump

Sorry for the quickinstall guide version bump. I blame myself and tab
completion.

My humblest apologies,

CVS access, last rite

Okay folks

The GDP recruitment policy (with quiz and all) has been in effect for some
time now and I think it is going very well. The latest GDP additions know
the GDP policy and rules better than some old-time devs.

So the next thing is to require all developers who have read/write access to
the documentation to fill in the quiz (and fix the fix-me). I'll put up a
list of those developers when I'm back in my "office" (read: room) where I
have a list of all CVS access accounts :p

Quizzes and fix-me should be sent to neysx <at> gentoo.org and swift <at> gentoo.org.
I will send in mine to Xavier (wouldn't be fair to fix my own would it :)

I guess a deadline should be offered as well. Mid-september? Sept 16th to be
exact.

Of course, this goes without saying, those who have already "done" the
quiz/fix-me don't have to redo it :p

Wkr,
      Sven Vermeulen

[Fwd: Gentoo Security Handbook]

-------- Original Message --------

Hi

Wouldn't it be good to mention FEATURES=gpg in the Security Handbook?
IMHO signing (and verification) of packages is an important aspect of
security.

AMD64 HOWTOs

Hey everyone,

Is there a specific reason for the AMD64 HOWTOs [1] not be listed on the
documentation index page? I'm asking this because if a translator
translates them (as I consider them quite useful), they won't get listed
as translated anywhere.
I understand that GDP is not responsable for the AMD64 project-space
documentation, and I'm assuming that at least the two AMD64
documentation developers are subscribed on this list, so they can respond.

Thanks.

Re: AMD64 HOWTOs

I guess it can always be translated and placed under
/proj/≤lang>/base/amd64/howtos/

Isn't that the objective of the language subdirectory?

That's where it would be committed, but that does not make it appear magically
in the index.

Yes, this is the objective but not my point. But how will the <lang>
users know if the document has been translated or not? by typing the URL
directly (www.gentoo.org/proj/<lang>/base/...)? If it would be included
in the metadoc.xml file, they would find out about all the
[un]translated documents.

Re: AMD64 HOWTOs

I was under the impression that proj was different from the main site,
as a result, we've been working on things slightly different from the
"rest" of the proj sites.

We have been keeping amd4 specific howtos on this site, as well as
errata and our meetings. Users in the #gentoo-amd64 channel know this
link, as do forum users.

If I was under the wrong impression, please correct me 8-)

AMD64 howtos have been added to our metadoc. Its index will show on our main
index and list of docs, its files will show up on overview.xml.

I took the liberty of fixing the date format in 2005.0-upgrade-amd64.xml,
bugs.xml and chroot.xml.
FYI, the date that is displayed on a handbook is the latest date of its index
and all included chapters, latest being defined as an alphabetical max(date).
If you mix yyyy-mm-dd and English dates in one handbook, the English one will
always be "later" then the yyyy-mm-dd ones.

Cheers,
