Use real DNS with Samba providing WINS services to the mentally
challenged?

Hi,

Not quite sure what you mean - you're using a Windows DNS server and
want to replicate records to a Linux server, or do you have a Linux
server and want to replicate records to a Windows DNS server?

Either way, I would think just setting up one DNS server as
authoritative, then setup the other DNS server to forward requests to
the first one should be sufficient. Or, just use the one DNS server as
authoritative.

If you want to know how to setup a Linux DNS server as a Dynamic DNS
server that links to a DHCP server (so that, for example, a new

None of the above. I have a set of tools that maintain ldap for our
linux system including ldap host and dns records. After creating a new
host entry, at present we have to login to a Windows server to enter
DNS information via the GUI. I want all of that to be handled by the
tool that maintains ldap (ie openldap not the Widows ldap function).

Maybe that's an answer. The company is very Windows centric, and the
Linux systems are concentrated in one department. At present,

Ah! Ok - well, you will probably need to trigger a script on the Windows
Server to update the DNS record. You could use the dnscmd.exe command
and put it in a DOS script (examples here:
http://www.petri.co.il/dnscmd_command_in_windows_2000_2003.htm) and get
a script to call it or something (or schedule the DOS script to run
every few hours). Not a very elegant solution, I admit.

On another note, you may want to persuade the administrator to switch
DNS and DHCP services to a Linux system instead. Leaving such critical
services on a platform that is so vulnerable to viruses and malware is
just asking for trouble - and I speak from experience!

Like many companies, management just loves all the troubles associated
with Windows.

I don't rate. And I'm feeling deprived and left out. Snif.

Anyone have a Google+ invite to share with one of your poor brethren?

I don't have a google+ account or an invite to offer; but since I have
such a high opinion of myself, I can tell you that you're in very good
company. ;-)

Re: <OT> HTML/Javascript Expertise??

I guess what I am asking is that the onload="" - there is no function apparently called here?? So when this
html page is loaded - what does it 'onload'??
I have done many popups, etc with this, but never with onload going to "" ??

Ideas??

Thanks...
