What is the current status on the "resync" of freshrpms?
I have been trying to do an upgrade of a box from FC1 to FC3 this
weekend and have been running into bad metadata on several mirrors.
(uk3, us5, ayo, ftp.freshrpms,) the APT metadata for the FC3 updates
was non-existent yesterday. Today the rpm-md for freshrpms 3 is
returning a bad SHA.

That would explain the slower speeds :-D

metalog

Is there any chance of having this provided? I've been using metalog on
Gentoo and quite frankly, it quite superior to syslog and syslog-ng in a
lot of ways:

http://metalog.sourceforge.net/

Also, there is an RPM for a different distro that doesn't *quite* work
(and is a bit out-of-date) but is pretty close:

http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/PLD/dists/ra/PLD/i386/PLD/RPMS/metalog-0.7beta-1.i386.html

Cliff

I have created a new spec the from spec file included in the tarball,
PLD's spec file and stole a little from the sysklogd package. Seems to
work, it's available here:

Can you give it a try? It's likely you what to change
/etc/metalog.conf .

This sounds like an excellent thing to get into Fedora Extras.

Maybe, but then some packages has to be changed too e.g. logwatch,
postfix-pflogsumm, logrotate and friends. How has Gentoo fixed this
issue?

New xine and mplayer packages : testing needed!

Hi,

I've made quite some changes in order to update my xine (and xine-lib) and
mplayer packages to the latest versions, as well as include fixes for gcc4
so that they will build on Fedora Core 4. For now, I've rebuilt the
packages for Fedora Core 3, but need some testing to be done before
pushing them out.

Major changes :
- Update to xine-lib 1.0.1
- Update to MPlayer 1.0pre7
- Cosmetic changes to xine (splash screen)
- System menu entry updates (mime types, icons)
- Split off docs and mencoder from main mplayer

Currently, the mplayer package seems fine to me, but xine acts weird. I
can't play XviD files with xine, although the output clearly states that
it should through the ffmpeg plugin. I'm not quite sure what the problem
can be nor how to fit it.

All problem reports, suggestions or even fixes are welcome!

Re: New xine and mplayer packages : testing needed!

I was thinking of making it back into the main rpm.livna.org mplayer
package.. :/

Do you really think it's a good idea ?

You mean to split out mencoder? I honestly don't know. All I know is :
- I use it, so I'll install it anyway nevertheless.
- It's 2.1MB worth of package size, so mplayer goes from 5.6 to 3.5MB.
- Many people will never use it...

So it seemed quite logical to make it optional. Same goes for the docs, as
they take up over 7MB once uncompressed, are in plenty of languages, and
most users won't ever need more than the man pages included in the main
package.
