Petition to ask MainConcept to release MainActor as Open Source software

Hi all!

There's a new petition to release MainActor, a non-linear video editing
software under an open-source software, as it will be discontinued. See:

http://opendotdotdot.blogspot.com/2007/10/we-umbly-petition.html

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mainactor/

Please sign the petition and help spread the word.

Regards,

After submitting one's contribution to the petition, the site does
*not* show the list of signatures. Instead, the next thing one sees is
a form to select a donation amount (from $2 up) via PayPal.

Despite this, the appearance of that form means the site *has*
accepted the contribution to the petition.

 Gene Cronk on Implementing IPv6

This talk will be on some of the basics of IPv6 including addressing,

permitting), and setups for an as of yet undisclosed flavor of BSD as
well as some of the well known daemons (Apache 2, SSHD) will be
demonstrated. Setting up a BSD OS as an IPv6 router and tunneling system
 will also be covered.

If you`re reading this and see something I missed (and plan on attending
the meeting), please drop a mail to the list and let me know what else
 should be added.

 Westchester PC Users Group Meeting
Thursday, October 4, 2007, 7:15 p.m., White Plains Middle School, Room
265, 128 Grandview Ave., White Plains, NY

 - History of Open Source Software by Naomi Saphra
 - Customize Linux to look like Windows, or to your taste by Scotty
 Fitzgerald
 - Secure Email by Stephen Weinberg

This month will be a first for the WPCUG, as two of our three
presenters, Naomi and Stephen, are "under 18," and probably know more
about the underlying principles of operating systems than most of our
members! All three presenters use Unix derived operating systems as
their primary OS--either Linux or BSD Unix. This meeting should be
interesting to those who like Windows, those who like Linux, and those
who like privacy in their mail system.

Jay, could I request that you:

  * make a mailing list somewhere else that is specific to these
    frequent "NYC LOCAL" posts, then

  * make a one-time invitation here for people who are interested in
those postings to join that mailing list, then

  * send future NYC LOCAL postings only to that list, instead of here.

I second this suggestion. I have little interest in these announcements, as
I'm not living anywhere near New-York City.

Jay,

I've seen this conversation with you on several completely unrelated
lists now with completely separate communities. Perhaps you
should think a little harder about whether NYC Local events are really
appropriate for non-local lists.

I've gone to your events and enjoyed them. I heard about them on
NYC-specifics lists I subscribed to when I lived in NYC. Please have
faith in other people to have done the same and do not take up the time
of the vast majority of us that do not live in New York and cannot come
even if we are interested.

Regards,
Mako

LINUX-ELITISTS OF ALL AGES! I beg your kind indulgence!

I hope to respond to the several posts asking me not to send such
like announcements to linux-elitists at some point before the
first serious snows. If I have not responded by then, please
send me a note.
