The URL mentioned in my subject bothers me a bit, so I thought I'd bring
it up to the list. Making my messages to this list public is fine, but
doing so in such a way that distorts my contribution is something that
I'd prefer if whoever set this up could avoid (I'm sure you didn't mean
it that way).

The page begins:

        Aaron Sherman
        I hate you, Greg

No context. No indication of why I hate Greg (I don't).

The page goes on to list several subjects of threads along with their
contributors and a short excerpt. The excerpts, however, are also not
mine.

Searching for my name via Google (yeah, I googled myself, go fig) yields
this page as the 7th hit, and given that it's not really about anything
that I said or did, could someone please just add a comment to the page
(presumably by modifying the indexing software in question) to indicate
that this is an index of threads that I contributed to, not a list of
excerpts from my postings?

Thank you very much for your time in advance.

You don't actually dislike the _URL_. Funny how some computerists act
like they don't know how to dereference, eh?

The _actual_ nub of the matter is that you have a personal problem:

> Searching for my name via Google (yeah, I googled myself, go fig)

The fact that I'm not very sympathetic might be explained by the fact
that, as you can verify by ego-searching _my_ name, "Rick Moen is an
idiot". Moving right along, though, your complaint states:

> The page begins:

Er, no sir. Context: Do you see that funny-looking highlighting of
the phrase "I hate you, Greg"? It's called a hyperlink. Select it in
your Web browser, and it takes you to

Would *I* mind? Not in the least. What specific comments on any of
_my_ Web sites do you have in mind?

such intervention, the lion dines well.

That's a good idea, but I don't want to put too
much text on any one archive page. Since these
pages contain basically only people's names and a
few keyword-dense sentences from the beginnings of
threads, they're helpful for searching. If I put
a bunch of malarkey on the page, it would probably
make it vanish from the top results.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to put the
original poster's name in front of the text excerpt
from the beginning of the thread, like this:

Aaron Sherman: Searching for my name via Google
(yeah, I googled myself, go fig)

What's disappointing is that I sent money, ordered several T-shirts, and
never heard back from Chip or the company that was supposed to send the
thank you T-shirts... (which I never received of course)
I Emailed Chip later at chip <at> pobox.com, but I never heard back either.

This is quite disappointing :(

I thought you had disappeared, thanks for getting back to me

So when a bunch of freedom-loving hackers can get a
Famous Law Professor to call them back about comments
on licensing issues...

http://people.debian.org/~evan/ccsummary

...I think it's time to retire "IANAL" for good.
So for 2006, my New Year's Resolution is that I have
something to say about a legal issue, I'll say it,
and I'll refrain from _argumentum ex ano_, and I
won't need "IANAL" either way.

What is up with Debian and CC these days, anyway?

Not sure about the connection between the URL and what you've said.

Possibly s/can get/can't get/ ? But I don't even see in that URL
where the Famous Law Professor has or hasn't called back.

Didn't you hear? Everything is software, and software is speech, and
they are me and you are we together.
