quote of the day

Quote of the Day:

"We're finding...cases where there is line-by-line code in the Linux
kernel that is matching up to our UnixWare code."

Darl McBride
Chief Executive
SCO Group

I bet I could find that too.

find /usr/src/linux/ -name *.c | xargs grep "University of California"

Yes, and they're into the whole 50s retro Stalinist police state
thing, too. Hope somebody saves me a poster; Socialist Realism is
so _edgy_.

"The Chinese Communist Party is experimenting with tagging and tracking

"In a new application of the technology, Texas Instruments provided
its client with about 20,000 of the tags."

Alternatively, imagine the embarrassment when the matching code in
question turns out to have been filtched from Linux...

"No, not THAT code, THIS code. This is what the evil communist pinko
Linux dogs have stolen. That other code was free, right?"

I have been looking for a quote I might have gotten from Ditherati or some
place completely different .-) I might also have dreamt it, who knows?

It is that quote where an IBM executive states that IBM will fight SCO and
"darken the skies with lawyers" or something to that extent. Do you know
what I am talking about and where to find the exact quote?

I am supposed to give a speech at this event (in Kista, Sweden) next week
(that's why I need the quote):
http://www.dfs.se/kompetens/konferenser/default.asp?d=2&id=932

Anyone here going? I can use some moral support .-)

Thanks in advance,

Mikael

That was Darl McBride, CEO and President of The SCO Group, in an interview
which must have been written with assistance from George W. Bush's speech
writers, given all the biblical overtones:

  CRN: Have settlement talks begun?

McBride: The phones are not ringing off the hook. From what I hear, IBM
will blacken the Utah sky with lawyers.

It was McBride, predicting IBM's response:

From what I hear, IBM will blacken the Utah sky with lawyers.

You know, I think there should be clever Jargon-file names for these
three activities:

    0) Responding to a message in some forum (newgroup or mailing
list) that is ridiculously old because you are generally dippy
and don't realize the thread is over.

    1) Responding to a message in some forum that is ridiculously old
because you have a particular axe to grind and the forum you're
responding to has marginally brushed on this subject in the
distant past ("I've noticed that participants in
rec.cars.chevrolet mentioned Esperanto back in 1994; I thought
I'd take this opportunity to give some URLs and pronunciation
       guides.").

    2) Responding to a message in some forum that is ridiculously old
for humorous effect; e.g., to mimic someone doing 0) or 1), to
point out an opponent's hypocrisy, or to simulate time travel.

Someone call Eric Raymond.

I do like the fact that Don was able to dredge up a message that

??food for thought??

I remember hearing a few times when this SCO complaint first came out about
how they might be hoping IBM would buy them up so they wouldn't bankrupt
themselves away, what i am kind of surprised is that i never heard MS
mentioned.

While i don't think they would be allowed to buy them by the SEC I'm kind of
surprised nobody ever mentioned it anywhere, not even once!

We all know Microsoft would love any chance regardlessly of how slim to make
linux go away, one way to make them go away might be to buy SCO and pray they
aren't bluffing and really have a case against IBM.

Isn't that essentially what Novell did with Dr-DOS, buy the rights to it and
then sue MS for what they did to Dr-DOS with 3.1 and all the false error
messages?

OAN, We all know how desperate MS is, as a matter of a fact here is actual
evidence of just how low they will go, have a laugh with this.
