r8169 driver - no net connection and hang at shutdown

Hi,

I'm having some trouble with r8169 and Linux kernel 2.6.15.1 getting my
Realtek 8169 ethernet controller to work. This is the gigabit
ethernet-capable embedded version which is integrated into a Foxconn
925A01-8EKRS2 motherboard.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, so I apologise if this
is more appropriate to linux-kernel.

Whenever the system boots, the r8169 driver does not pick up the MAC
address for the card; it reports the MAC addrress as being
FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. (I have also tried various 2.6.12, 2.6.13, 2.6.14
kernels with the same experience). My first thought was "broken chip",
but this box has similar issues with other network cards which I'll
mention later.

When I run ifconfig, this reports:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
              inet addr:192.168.0.9 Bcast:192.168.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
              RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:4294967290 overruns:0 frame:0

              RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
              Interrupt:21 Base address:0x4800

The IP address has been assigned statically in /etc/network/interfaces
as I don't use DHCP (and I doubt DHCP would currently work anyway). If I

Realtek Problem in Redhat Linux3

Hi ,
Today in the early evening ,I wrote you an email for the the RTL1389 NIC
iisue . PLease ignore this ,because ,I have resolved the issue . Actually
the PCI interface of the card was faulty .and that was teh reason the card
was not getting configured by Linux /Kudzu.
Once I corrected the issue ,the card was installed in no time by Kudzu
itself,No driver was required.
Sorry to bother you and thanks for the support from this mailing list .

Realtek card not getting installed on Redhat Linux3

Hi ,
I am working on RedHat Linux 3 .and just brought the Realtek NIC card to
configure a Router on the Linux Box. Here are the problems which I am facing
.

1. The RTL 1389 is not been recognized by the Kudzu utility .
2. I tried to install the /LINUX/RTL1389.C file using the Makefile command
as specified in the Readme.txt ,But I get errors like" cc: not found" ,"ld:
not found " and many other commands not found .
3.Then I tried running the commands at the bottom of the driver file ,which
also gives many syntax errors .
4.I also downloaded the driver from syscld.com website ,but it is also not
working .

All the compilers and Kernel RPMs are installed on the system .

Can you please help me on this .

Complete kernel crash with Ovislink Fast Ethernet Cardbus 10/100

Dear sirs,

I am just reporting a problem wich I can no longer debug because I have
not the appropriate skills nor the time to do it(actually
it consumed me quite time to trace the problem to this point)

The problem happens when using the PCMCIA Ovislink card at 100Mb/s with
linux (I just bought it new),
and it does not allow the use of remote X sessions in my notebook, wich
is an old model but that is
actually referred by Ovislink as one of the models they tested the card
in.

This can be a problem with the driver 8139too, the PCMCIA subsystem or
the kernel itself.

How I reach a complete crash of my notebook:

Connect two linux hosts with a cross-cable (in my case both with
Libranet 2.8.1, but saw it happens with others)
One of my hosts is a notebook Toshiba Portege 300CT, did not test
others.

Both kernel are 2.4.21 (doesn't matter they are Libranet original or
recompiled)

After configuring network and firewall hosts.allow, and adding xhost+
neptuno in Toshiba...

Probme with Realtek RTL8139 Driver

I have a debian linux system with the 2.2.20 kernel with two realtek
rtl8139 ethernet cards installed. I have downloaded and compiled the
latest version of rtl8139, v1.24:

Jun 30 10:17:20 whitehills kernel: rtl8139.c:v1.24 11/13/2003 Donald
Becker, becker <at> scyld.com.
Jun 30 10:17:20 whitehills kernel: http://www.scyld.com/network/rtl8139.html
Jun 30 10:17:20 whitehills kernel: eth0: RealTek RTL8139C Fast Ethernet at
0xec00, IRQ 11, 00:30:4f:1e:c6:a8.
Jun 30 10:17:20 whitehills kernel: eth1: RealTek RTL8139C Fast Ethernet at
0xe800, IRQ 10, 00:50:22:b1:a4:2b.

The system functions as a router for a wireless network with the access
point and the customer radios/routers on the eth1 card. I experience the
following problems:

	1. The eth1 card will stop passing traffic. I have
a cron task that runs every 5 minutes to ping
the access point and if the ping fails, the eth1
interfaces is stopped and then started. Traffic
begins to flow again and the kern.log will
	    sometimes contain this message:

	    Jul 2 19:30:19 whitehills kernel: eth1: Oversized
	    Ethernet frame, status 6d1ff70b!

	2. Sometimes the kernel will do a panic halt with an
error message on the console about trying to kill
the idle task. The system then requires a manual

problem with rtl8139.o v1.23 (fwd)

Under heavy? load I see the following messages in the log, the card seems
to stop transmitting until a ifconfig down/up (which I did at least once
during the log). I do not see the problem with 8139too.o v0.9.24 .

realtek bug: rtl8139.c v1.23 and RTL8139D chip

hello donald becker

i have nearly the same problems like hassan <at> electdp.iut.ac.ir.
my kernel version is 2.4.4. i use a network card from www.claxan.com
equiped with a RTL8139D chip. i have downloaded the
netdrivers-3.4-package from your site and successfully installed
it on my linux-box. the card is not sharing any interrupt with some
other device.

if i transmit larger files by ftp, the network apapter
seems to stop working. i always get an "Abnormal interrupt, status
00000021.". pinging to another host does not work any more. pinging
to myself via my ip or 127.0.0.1 still does work.
there are no other abnormal interrupts except the one with status
00000021. the abnormal interrupt activated by pulling out the
ethernet cable and inserting it again is managed correctly, but does
not recover "Abnormal interrupt, status 00000021." only unloading the
network-drivers or bringing the interface down and again up solves
the problem.
how is it possiple to create a status RxOK (0x01) and RxUnderrun (0x20)
simultaneously?

thanx
eRiC

eth0: Oversized Ethernet frame, status 1dea0888!

Hi,

I have a box with a Biostar MB M7VKD with on board network chipset
RTL8139.
When I use it connect in a HUB, the and connect with another box with
the same configuration, the data transfer is very, very slow, when I
connect them using a switch, it works fine. Well even with connect in a
switch sometimes happens the message "eth0: Oversized Ethernet frame,
status 1dea0888!" and the network is down, so I must do down the network
interface and up it again. I was using the version 1.08 and I upgrade it
to version 1.22 and the same thing happens.

Any suggestion ???

If you need more information, please let me know.

TIA

realtek-bug archives inaccessible

I wanted to access the realtek-bug archives to see if the issue I am having
has been previously reported, but the archives seem to be inaccessible.
Here is the message I get:

Network Interface hangs

Hi,

I have a machine with 3 RTL8139C interfaces (two are onboard, one is in
a PCI slot) acting as router an have the following problem:
when the machine is under heavy load (generated with iperf) the network
interface on the client side hangs (with no entries in the syslog)

The driver has the version v1.22.

I've run the rtl8139-diag with the -am and the -eee option and have
found the following differences:

working:
Receiver configuration: Normal unicast and hashed multicast
Rx FIFO threshold 256 bytes, maximum burst 256 bytes, 32KB ring

after it hangs:
  Receiver configuration: Reception disabled
Rx FIFO threshold 16 bytes, maximum burst 16 bytes, 8KB ring

The logfile (network related) when the system comes up:
