Hi,

when I insert my intel 2011B in pcmcia slot with kernel 2.6.11.6 and orinoco driver 0.15rc2 I obtain the following message:

symbol_sp24t_prim_fw

I'm trying to get 0.15rc2 to talk to an
Intel WPC2011BWW pccard which appears to
be supported by this driver:

Correct, the firmware is not present for legal reasons.  But
get_symbol_fw was not included by oversight.  It's available from the
HEAD branch of Orinoco CVS:

You also need parse_symbol_fw in the same directory:

That fit the bill -- I managed to get the WLAN to init
and talk:

One odd thing which tripped me up for a bit was when
I iwconfig'ed the interface manually I got this:

# iwconfig eth1 mode managed essid XXXXX channel 6
Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
     SET failed on device eth1 ; Device or resource busy.

Yet the interface apparently did get set to the
specified channel as well as other parameters.

Also a "iwconfig eth1" status dump didn't yield
any signal level information until the WLAN was
ifconfig'ed.  Are these known problems or is this
card just "special"?  Incidentally this Intel
WPC2011BWW won't win any awards in the long
distance link competition.  At ~20' away from the
AP it musters a signal level of -120db with a
noise floor of -149db.

Well, I don't see anything in the traceback that looks like a
reference to the orinoco driver.  So I'm guessing this is a problem
somewhere in the general pcmcia code.

You cannot set frequency in managed mode.  It's a limitation of the
firmware.  Other drivers allow you to set the frequency, but the
firmware scans for the AP on all channels and uses the available channel
to connect.

Other drivers would not report an error, but they would not force the
card to use the given channel.

It's a known limitation.  The card's RF interface is turned off when the
interface is down.

Intel 2011B + FC3 + 0.15rc2, cannot register AP

Hi List,

I successfully compiled 0.15rc2 with kernel 2.6.9-1.667 that comes with fedora 
core 3. I defined the SPECTRUM_FW_INCLUDE in spectrum_cs.c and created 
spectrum_fw.h via get_symbol_fw & parse_symbol_fw.

Now my Intel 2011b could be configured by iwconfig, but I still can't make it 
connect to my access point.

I tried the following commands:

# ifconfig eth1 up
# ifconfig eth1

Just set 

# iwconfig eth1 rate auto

then everything will magically work fine.

Capturing all packets (including MAC headers)

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, 
but I've read some postings here regarding this matter 
before, and yet didn't find the solution.

I'm trying to capture all packets including RTS/CTS packets 
on both the sending and receiving node, not using a 3rd 
monitoring node. So I want to see the MAC header. I'm using 
Orinoco Gold cards and orinoco_cs on Linux. The best 
scenario for me would be to use tcpdump with -y option, but 
I want to do it in any possible way.

Does anyone know how to do it or can anyone give me some 
pointers on where I can look for the way? Any pointer is 
appreciated. Thank you so much.
