orinoco mailing lists shutting down

The orinoco driver is near obsolete these days. I think what little
discussion of the driver is left can now move to the
linux-wireless@... list. The two orinoco lists on
sourceforge are pretty much just spam traps.

So, unless someone has a good reason not to, I plan to shut down these
lists in a week's time, that is on 26 May 2012.

Wi-fi problem

Hi folks,

I'm having a problem with an old ThinkPad, an A22M with a 3Com Ethernet
3c556B and a built in wireless interface.

I need to connect to a WPA access point (Trinity) and I can do this with
another laptop but not with the A22M. The access point is working. In
both cases I'm using wicd and at first the A22M would detect the WPA
access point but not as WPA but as WEP - and refuse to authenticate. It
says Connection Failed: Bad Password. I have no trouble using WEP to
connect with other WEP access points using the A22M.

After Googling my eyes out looking for information on the Wi-fi
capabilities of the A22M, I discovered part of the problem was with the
firmware version. Version 6.xx won't do WPA and a version greater than
9.42 is needed. So I installed firmware-linux-nonfree (ug!) and on the
next reboot the orinoco driver pulled in the 9.48 version of the
firmware and automatically installed it. (No more floppy disks - tres
cool!) So now wireless scanning detects the access point as WPA but
still doesn't connect.

Since I'm using wicd, I turned debug mode on, tried to connect to the
access point and checked out the log. There was a comment suggesting
that dhcpcd might be better than the default dhclient. So I installed
dhcpcd without any luck. Still no connection - Bad Password!

So here are three exerpts. The first is from lshw and shows the basic
information about the wireless interface. The second is from dmesg
immediately after booting. (orinoco info and dmesg |grep -i eth1). The
third is cut from the wicd log /var/log/wicd/wicd.log immediately after

orinoco: Remove old mailing lists from MAINTAINERS

The two orinoco mailing lists on sourceforge were set up many years
ago and are now more or less moribund. I'd like to shut them down, so
I don't have to keep filtering the spam from them (which is most of
what comes through now). In preparation, this patch removes the
reference to them from the MAINTAINERS file. Any remaining discussion
of this approaching obsolete driver can go to the linux-wireless list.

Please apply.

orinoco_cs OOPS with recent kernel

I have a ThinkPad T43 with an Orinoco Classic Silver PCMCIA card in it.
This works fine under Windows.
It used to work with the orinoco_cs driver under Fedora,
but I don't think it has worked since Fedora-11.

Now (under Fedora-14) a kernel OOPS is caused when the card is inserted,
or if the machine is booted with the card in.

I googled for orinoco_cs, but didn't find any recent posts on it.
Is this device no longer supported in Linux?
If so, it seems odd that the driver is still in the kernel.

That kernels rather old. Any chance of trying something newer?

Do you know whether this fails for the primary or the secondary
firmwares (or both)? You could try comment out that check and see what
happens.

I think they are, but I've never used these cards.

LA-5127 driver support

Hi,

I am using linux 2.6.26 cross compiled for PXA 255 (ARM assembly).

I have Symbol Technologies CF based wireless card LA-5127. I
downloaded "symbol_sp24t_prim_fw", "symbol_sp24t_sec_fw" firware files
using orinoco_fw_0.3 utility. I moved these files in to my target
hardware. I do have enabled "hotplug" support.

When I plugged the CF card into PCMCIA socket in my hardware,
spectrum_cs module is loaded and symbol_sp24t_prim_fw is copied from
user space to kernel, but it is failed at "hermes_present" in
spectrum_dl_image.

What might be the issue? Is this correct firmware files for this wireless card?

Thanks

Compaq WL215 USB adapter - backtrack 4

I have a Compaq WL215 USB adapter and am trying to get it working with backtrack 4 final. I've had this card working in other distros although it's been awhile.

I've tried the orinoco usb drivers from: svnroot/orinoco/branches/usb/ in addition to the EZUSB bridge firmware but I haven't had any luck as of yet.

I've also attempted to utilize the git tree at repo.or.cz/w/orinoco_usb.git but still haven't had any success. Any ideas? I wasn't sure if perhaps I should try a different revision from the SVN or whether or not it'd require a patch. Has anyone gotten a orinoco usb adapter working in backtrack 4 and if so can you provide the steps? Many thanks !

freezing with kernel 2.6.26

Hello all,

i have big problems with the orinoco usb-card on 2.6.26-Kernels. The system freeze, so that you have
to use the reset-button, or in some less times it continues with segmentation faults.

I can't produce the error. It just happen after some seconds or minutes after the orinoco card is
switched on. During the installation with just a minimal system without X the card runs for hours
without problems (during the installation of the rest of the system), so it seems to have to do with
a conflicts to some oter stuff.

I used the rev. 1300 of orinoco_usb

I use the orinoco card some times with another computer (eeepc) on wich also runs the 2.6.26-Kernel,
but there are no problems at all.

I went now back to the old-stable kernel 2.6.18 and the rev. 1273 to avoid the problems, but I want
to report the problem here.

Regards.

Here is what said dmesg, when the error happend without freezing the whole computer:
