By remembering getting a patch rejected sometime in the past somewhere
because of using it, and now reading automake's NEWS file :)

Ok, committed.

Re: regardless of what I try: Fifo still full, trying stop

[Sorry that I cannot reply with the threading intact. I only read
this in the list archive and just subscribed to answer. In case the
original poster does not follow this list any more, it would be nice
if someone could forward this message to him.]

Hi,

I am having the same problem here. The screen stays black and the
same message appears in syslog. And I also recently upgraded to (K)
ubuntu breezy. Unless that posting (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/
showthread.php?t=87187) is also from you, that makes us three people
with the same problem.

So my guess is that this is a problem with the breezy kernel. To test
that, I tried installing the hoary kernel on breezy, which boots just
fine (although without the splash screen). But the dxr3 still had the
same problem. So I concluded it's something in the userland. After
several unsuccessful attempts, I figured it is a compiler
incompatibility. The breezy userland is compiled with gcc4, that
includes the em8300setup utility. But the breezy and the hoary kernel
are compiled with gcc3 and this seems to be the problem. After I
rebuilt the em8300 package (which includes the em8300setup tool) with
breezy's gcc-3.4, things suddenly worked with the hoary kernel.

Here's a summary of the working configuration:
* breezy installation
* latest official kernel for hoary (installed alongside the breezy
one), available here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/hoary/base/linux-
image-2.6.10-6-686
* the em8300 module compiled for the hoary kernel (I use 0.15.0,

"Fifo still full, trying to stop" on ITX motherboard

I've also been struggling with this "Fifo still full, trying to stop".

It comes when I run:

  mplayer -vo dxr3 dvd://

and if I run it without -vo dxr3, it runs fine with ascii output.

I tried to free irq from sharing it with other devices but when I
unloaded modules sharing the irq, same problem existed even it had
the irq alone.

emu10k1&em8300 oss-emulation

I'm not sure which mailing list to send this problem...

I have sblive (aka emu10k1) soundcard and it works great with alsa, but not
with alsa's oss-emulation. Problem seems to be that oss-emulation is
configured for em8300 modules.
When i load em8300 and adv717x and run em8300setup oss-emulation works
through em8300 stereo sound output.

How to configure alsa to use oss-emulation through soundcard not em8300's
sound output?

Alsa finds dxr3 mixer device as Sigmatel STAC9721,23.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

You are not using (K)ubuntu breezy per chance? If not, what is your
kernel version?

Ok, no breezy, so we have a second setup with this problem now.

Note that I installed this box at late this summer and have tried
with all FC4 update kernels which have em8300 support - witout luck.

Actually, I don't have any evidence, that the card would actually
work - but at least it's visible in PCI bus so it can't be
all dead either.

If you have any suggestions what I could test/try or set up some
debugs, I'm happy to do so.

Re: "Fifo still full, trying to stop" on ITX motherboard

I managed em8300 card to work in Ubuntu Breezy by updating bios to version
2.6.14 from kernel.org and used kernel config from 2.6.12-10-k7. I used ck1
patch.

Then i installed em8300-0.15.1 with gcc-3.4 and everything works. Just make
symlink from gcc to gcc-3.4 ;)

With ubuntu prepackaged kernel I could not get anything out from tv, it just
flashed and stayed black when trying to watch video.
I have adv717x and I'm using option pixelport_16bit=0 to make screen look
normal (without that it is all green)

Hope this helps.

What you mean by "updating bios to version 2.6.14" ? Do you mean
motherboard BIOS? (version implies that it's kernel version). Was that
update meaningful? I could try to update mine if it was.

Yep, that is what I am after here, Ville Skyttä has done good work
for packaging the drivers for Fedora if it doesn't work, we need to
find out why and fix it. I'm pro binary distros for masses :)
