Problems with booting and initrd (Wrap 1E)

Hello!

I installed the Voyage-Linux on a Wrap 1E machine at the beginning of the January. As this machine was in another country
I did remote update over ssh (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade) at about the end of the January.

However this update had also a new kernel and the result was that the machine was no more able to boot.
Now I have a physical access to this machine and am trying to get the system working but with no success.
I rerun the update-initramfs and lilo with several options (core_ide.nodma..., all_generic_ide, etc.) but nothing
helped. (update-initramfs and lilo seem to actually work).

The problem seems to be that the initramfs doesn't get started.

Has anyone an idea how to get this machine boot? (without the need to reinstall everything?)

Thank you!

Upgrading from one version to another

Guys, is it possible to do an in-place upgrade without removing the CF Card while the appliance is "hot"?

Only thing I can think of is pexi and my cables are not long enough.

Any assistance would be most appreciative,
Thanks,
John

kernel headers

Dear list-readers,

if you must compile external modules - e.g. r8168 for network - you need
the kernel_headers.

Ok, you can produce them compiling the kernel and everything else. This
is a stony way if you do not find the mails on this list decribing how
to do it...

I like to ask what is the reason not to generate the kernel headers by
default with release or the nightly build?

if not produced by officials -- what is the reason not to make a short
shell script as voyage specific with the aim to produce it by the
individual who need it.

Thanks in advance for reading and thinking about it

Michael
