RE: Loging Into Freespire 1.1.84

I dunno, but it reminds me of an old saying: "When you lay an egg, the
only thing to do is to step back and admire it." The reference to Unix
leads me to believe it was cut and pasted en masse from much older
code. Look for an overworked programmer with very red ears. ;-)

Loging Into Freespire 1.1.84

I know this issue has been addressed but I can't find it in my archived emails.

I tried to run 1.1.84 as "Live CD" and it asked for a login.
I did the same with the previous versions and they too asked for login.

What am I missing or what did I do wrong?

The only version I have not had a problem with is 1.1.57.

RE: The 3 Bears and Alpha Releases

You appear to be plugged into the use of "leapfrog technology", where
lands without a phone system go cellular, solar cells enable
refrigeration in deserts without electrical power, etc. The OLPC concept
may be headed you way, a problem seems to exist with the hand crank, but
8GB thumb drives predict the elimination of power-hungry hard drives and
solar cells may help alleviate the problem. If the $100 laptop cannot be
reached, perhaps a $150 one with $50 coming from grant money may be
possible. (Don't count on money from the Gates Foundation, which for
some reason is married to the Microsoft OS.)
The problem lies not with technology, but with producers of technology
wanting to get paid for their efforts. The Chinese will likely provide
the answer as they forgo immediate gain for the creation of larger
markets for their products by helping to raise the standard of living
in targeted countries. They used to call that "enlightened self
interest." The proper use of microloans may also help build the
economy. Freespire can certainly have a role to play in development,
it's a matter of getting ducks in a row, teaching elephants to tap
dance & overcoming inertia. Minor details. ;-)

start to cut fron the roots this won't change... I'm just taking it from the hardest side which is to fight
against B$ and try to get them to understand that there are better and simple ways to develop than just sit
and wait for the goverment to solve their situation with some success. I really believe that next year
could be the year that can make a difference for them... We (my wife and me) are just a pair of crazy americans
living in SA with our money trying to help this poor people to get somewhere, actually we live very
confortable and hate to see others having lots of trouble just to get trhough life... I'm convinced that FS
is the project to support to get what we are looking for, to help them, lests hope that it works...

If MS is out of it, that'll mean there is that much more money available
for other equally important things. I overlooked the "k". That's a lot

RE: The 3 Bears and Alpha Releases

I can understand your excitement. When I stumbled across the Free spire
project, I had a similar rush of enthusiasm. I would be as excited as
you if I were able to help 500 young minds free up their human
potential. (I've got 2 nephews in Brazil right now, I suspect to avoid
the rigors of North Iowa winters). May all of you down there have a
wonderful Christmas. It looks like a very productive new year ahead.

RE: The 3 Bears and Alpha Releases

I repeated the actual joke (as far as memory would allow) from nearly 40
years ago. I suppose encouraging others to take up the study of Zen
might make the same point, but meanings do get lost in cultutal
differences. If features don't show up or work in the beta or RC
versions, that's probably the best time to bring such matters to the
programmers attention.

The 3 Bears and Alpha Releases

One morning, Papa Bear came downstairs for breakfast, only to find
his porridge bowl empty. Baby Bear was right behind him and discovered
that his bowl was also empty.
"Who ate my porridge?" roared Papa Bear.
"Who ate MY porridge?" wailed Baby Bear.
From out in the kitchen came the voice of Mama Bear,
"Bitch, bitch, bitch! I haven't even made the porridge yet!
