64 Studio 3.0 Alpha - Happy New Year release

Hi,

as many 64 Studio users are start asking for installable ISOs of the
3.0 alpha release, here we go:

http://pdk.64studio.com/projects/64studio/hardy/images/64studio_master_i386.iso
http://pdk.64studio.com/projects/64studio/hardy/images/64studio_master_amd64.iso

Please keep in mind that all this is ALPHA software and you might hit
bugs, so reports are welcome!

I've tested i386 version, which should be reasonably usable, while the
amd64 is pretty untested.

Ciao!

Thanks for your test. It sounds like the good-old 2.1 installer
doesn't detect your CD-ROM properly. I've just published an
installable 3.0 alpha ISO, hope it helps.

Ciao!

This should be fixed now.

That's weird, you should have the 1.8+0.71-0.64studio2 version.

Half off topic: E.g. Suse uses modules that call all drives sd, even
IDEs are called sd and not hd, so sd can be for SCSI, SATA, ATA. I don't
know how it is for Ubuntu.

This is more a function of the kernel and supporting user space apps
(like udev). So for Ubuntu, it is very similar

3.0 fails to load

Greetings,

First, the hardware details:

Notebook computer HP G60-125NR, with AMD Turion-X2, 3G RAM, 250G hd,
nVidia 8200M GPU, HDA Intel soundchip.

This machine is already running Ubuntu 8.10. I resized a partition and
installed the 64 Studio 3.0 alpha system, without troubles except for
one significant error message. The installer reported that there was no
kernel available for my hardware and that I could (if I'm an expert)
select one later. There is no "later" to select a kernel, so the message
is misleading. I opted to install the kernel later, the installation,
rolled to its conclusion, and it appeared that I had a new installation
of 64 Studio 3.0. I even added the do_initrd=YES to /etc/kernel.conf.

Alas, the system won't load. As soon as it reports "Loading, please
wait" that's the end of all activity. The machine is fine, I can reboot
with ctl-alt-del, and I still have my Ubuntu partition. But what's
happening here ? The installed kernel is 2.6.21-1-multimedia-486, is
that what it should be ? Please advise as to what I should try next. :)

Best,

dp
