[debconf] GSoC Group photo

Hi all students and mentors at DebConf,

We're going to have a group photo of all the GSoC people right after
the regular group photo tomorrow at 11:30.
Try to come a few minutes early and find me on the steps. I'll try to
be on the bottom left when facing the Low Library (the big building
with a dome roof).

Cheers
Arthur

Let's have another attempt tomorrow at 13:30, same place as the group photo.
Everyone, be there.

New version of Config::Model with GSoC2010 code.

Hello

I've released a Config::Model 1.206 which feature all the work done so far by
Krzysztof Tyszecki during this summer's Google summer of Code. Here's the
Changelog:

First version to feature code written during Google Summer of
        Code 2010.
For this GSoC, Krzysztof Tyszecki has provided:
        * a new backend for INI file that can:
            * read and write comments to and from annotations. This way
              users comments are preserved
            * read and write parameters that are repeated in the INI file.
This repeated parameters will be loaded in list elements
        * the capacity to load annotation from perl data structure
        * a new model feature to accept unknown element. This will enable
loading and writing configuration files even if parameters are
unknown. This feature is required to create models targeted for
configuration upgrades: only upgrade and migration specifications
need to be specified in a model. Parameters that don't change from
one version to another need not to be specified in the model.

        Other changes:
        * lib/Config/Model/Loader.pm (_walk_node): bug fix to load node
        element annotation
        * lib/Config/Model/Dumper.pm (): bug fix to dump hash and list
        element annotations
        * Fixed Fstab example

This probably does not mean that the configuration upgrade problem is solved,

Mentor Summit on 23-24th Oct 2010

Hi folks,

[shamelessly plagiarizing myself from last year]

We need to choose two people to go to the Google Summer of Code Mentor
Summit on 23th and 24th October at the Googleplex in Mountain View,
California to represent Debian.

Google will provide up to a 2000USD stipend for travel so this year it
doesn't specifically matter whether zero, one or two of the two
attendees are not from within the US. Google will also sponsor local
accommodations (hotel, food..).

They request that the attendees have hands on experience as mentor or
admin and more generally with the Google Summer of Code organization.
Knowledge about core issues and organization of Debian is also welcome
since there will be several Linux distributions BoFs.

Please declare yourself if you are interested!
The only requirement is that whoever will go will take time after the
summit to write a blog post for those who didn't go :)

Please try to come to a decision before, say, September 16th, so that
booking arrangements can be taken.

Cheers

Arthur

I will be there as Scilab but as a DD, I will be also part of
distribution BoFs.

Last year, we were 6 DDs over there.

I would be interested in going, though those who actually mentored this year
should obviously take priority (I've mentored and admined in past years, so
I do have the requested hands on experience).

Cheers,

Let's be even bolder than that! :)

I hereby request that the "lucky" attendants of the GSoC mentor summit
respect the Debian Meeting Sponsoring Guidelines available at:

  http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DPL/SponsoringGuidelines

It is just a matter of letting others know that you'll be going there as
a kind of "Debian representative", possibly asking for inputs before
going, and to inform others during and a posteriori as mentioned by
Arthur (also please remember that not everybody in Debian follow blogs,
so a dual blog/mail in the end will be appreciated by a lot of people in
the community).

BTW, Arthur, how about a concluding Debian GSoC report for d-d-a? As we
had one in the beginning, it just makes sense to have a final report…
.oO( maybe that can be coped with the notice of who will be going to the
summit on behalf of Debian )

Keep up the good work!
Cheers.

PS in case you wonder, I won't be able to attend as those days of
October are incredibly crowded of FOSS-related events already (and
I've done basically nothing anyhow for this year GSoC, so ...)
