Better background on search results

Hello,

A simple mail just to signal a little mistake in the
generated HTML pages resulting from a Debian package search.

The serach page is:
http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages

An example of the resulting search:
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=debian&searchon=names&subword=1&version=stable&release=all

On the opposite of all the others pages, theses resulting pages do not
specifify the white background in their HTML code.
Therefore, since some browsers do not apply a white color by default
(mine apply grey)
- the color is not conform with the rest of the debian web site
- even worse, since the two logo-images at the top of the page
suppose to be on a white background, their frame is directly visible and not
very very nice...

So this was just an information to make things perfect by specifying a white
background even in thess pages !

-yann.

During the last two days I tweaked it somewhat. It now needs ten
minutes on my Athlon 900 (512 MB RAM) for 'stable'. But it needs
up to 400 - 500 MB RAM during the run. (ca. 40-50% of the execution
time goes into whatever perl makes after my last command, I assume
it's calling desctructors and garbage collecting. If anyone knows a
trick to free the memory more "rude", I will happy to hear it ;)

I can not say how much it scales for the unstable distribution with
all the translations, because it needs approx. 600 MB RAM and so most
of the time goes to swapping on my comp. (haven't had time to run it
completly yet, but I estimate two to three hours for unstable on my comp atm)

I know that there is much redundant data, so I will try to reduce the
memory requirements but this will surely result in a (hopefully small)
speed penalty.

Gruesse,

I've quickly hacked something together to get a feeling for what you
mean. Please look at
http://fachschaft.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de/~frank/packages/test/44bsd-rdist.en.html
and tell me if that's like what you had in mind.
(It's just a concept, so please no nitpicking.)

Perhaps make sure you've flushed all I/O handles and then
POSIX::_exit(0)?

Well, then the answer is: maybe. :)

Getting into the webwml group

Hi *

I'm coordinating the debian-installer traslation into Spanish and I want to
modify a couple of pages in Spanish regularly. Moreover, I'm going to help
in many other translations, translating by myself and uploading
translations from others.

So, I'd like to be in the webwml group to get write access in there :)

Thanks.

Cannot search packages

Using the http://packages.debian.org/something alias now returns an
error:

   Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/search_packages2.pl on
   this server.

The script is a symlink, perhaps the server is not set up to allow
symlinks in that directory?
