A Distributor, AACDS

I want to register a complaint against a Debian distributor - in the harshest language I know. AACDS sent me a
copy of Linux 2.1 with a shop-worn copy of the O'Reilly volume on Debian, with a few other scraps of
miscellaneous information about Debian and Debian GNU/Linux - in a beat-up box that looks to be old and
used. I am unable to get in touch with this outfit to get my money back. I will try one other vendor, then quit
this nonsense.

[OT] YAQ - questionnaire about developing free software /open source

Sorry for any cross-posting!

Hello,

this is an information about YAQ - Yet Annother Questionnaire.

My name is Frauke Lehmann and I'm writing my master thesis about the
social formation of free software/open source (FS/OS) developers. YAQ is
one part of my research - besides interviews and observations.
I understand FS/OS developers as people who are writing code
(obviously), but also those that write documentation, do translations,
design GUIs, or people that take care of the project's infrastructure
(mailing lists etc.) or answer users' questions.
It would be really nice, if you supported my survey by filling in my
questionnaire (takes 20-30 min).
I'm going to publish my thesis (once it's done) on my website. It will
be freely available in German (the orginal) and as an English
translation (after some time) and it will be allowed to distribute it
freely in digital form. I'm still looking for the proper licence, which
fits social science works and my wishes (I wouldn't like if a book
publisher took it and published it with out my knowledge and
permission).

If you have any questions about my project, please feel free and email
me.

Thanks for taking the time reading this mail and hopefully filling in
YAQ. Which you will find at http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/~egal/

Any box will do, make it as cheap as you want. The only box I own is
running testing, so a bit heavier load even, and is a Pentium-mmx
166MHz, 92Mb of RAM, 7Gb hard disk, a 16bit graphics card with 2Mb of
momory, some standard stuff like floppy, cdrom and network cards -all
about the crappiest one can get. Oh yeah, I even have a soundcard, some
original soundblaster iirc.
Anyway, this is much lower spec than you can currently find anywhere on
the market I suppose so don't be to worried... I must admit my GNOME2
is sometimes a bit slow, but it all still is fine as it is the only
computer I have and still makes me happy.

Have fun

Debian, the project, and SPI, the non-profit legal body behind it, do
not distribute boxed versions of Debian GNU/Linux for themselves. The
list of vendors is entirely for the benefit of those vendors.

So, if some vendors behave badly - and in your case, that really sounds
quite bad, it certainly is in the interest of the Debian project to
unlist that vendor from the Debian web pages.

A google search (aacds site:debian.org) didn't turn up anything else
about this vendor. Do you know other people who bought Debian from this
shop? Also: after you have contacted them, you should probably contact
this list again and tell how they reacted.

Greetings

You should probably use the debian-users <at> lists.debian.org mailing list
for this kind of question, or the #debian IRC channel on freenode.

cheers

Logo Question

I came up with this logo idea and want to make Linux
shirts and want to make sure it's OK to use your logo
for this. It's a tiny logo and I enclosed the Image I
want to use.

You're using the Debian Open Use Logo
(http://www.debian.org/logos/#open-use) so it's OK.

Hello,

you can install and run Debian on almos every hardware of the x86 (x >
2) architecure and of a lot of other architectures, like PowerPC, MIPS
and SPARC.

There are a special kind of hardware, like printers, winmodems ,etc
that are specially designed for Windows, these kind of hardware you
can not run with Debian, because the drivers for this hardware are
native and closed source, also vendors do not publish any
specifications. So the consequence is that no drivers can be written
(there are another possible ways, like reverse engineering, but more
or less it is impossible).

If you wan't detailed information what hardware is compatible and runs
on Debian (Linux) take a closer look at the hardware compatibility
howto [1], this is a detailed list of all known supported hardware.

Salve, volevo sapere se conoscevate qualche rivenditore a Roma che vende le borse e zaini o robba simile della debian.
Grazie!
