Would you be interested in trying this?  I suggested using an updated X
stack from squeeze-backports[1], but an alternative simpler way might be to
use a wheezy live cd[2].

marked the bug as upstream because I could not find a Debian patch that
seemed relevant to the problem.

That said, I was also able to reproduce the bug on another machine,
which is running Arch Linux with kernel version 3.2.2.

Thanks for a quick reply.  Is this a regression?  E.g., does 3.1.1-1 from
http://snapshot.debian.org/ work?
