Bug#526425: ITP: libgravatar-url-perl -- Perl interface to make URLs for Gravatars from an email address

Package: wnpp
Owner: Ryan Niebur <ryanryan52 <at> gmail.com>
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-devel <at> lists.debian.org

* Package name    : libgravatar-url-perl
  Version         : 1.01
  Upstream Author : Michael G Schwern <schwern <at> pobox.com>
* URL             : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Gravatar-URL/

  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Perl interface to make URLs for Gravatars from an email address
 A Gravatar is a Globally Recognized Avatar for a given email address. This
 allows you to have a global picture associated with your email address. You
 can look up the Gravatar for any email address by constructing a URL to get
 the image from gravatar.com. Gravatar::URL does that.

Also, seems like lists.alioth.debian.org doesn't have the same functionality.
Is there any plan for this?

Due to the way pipermail works, removing messages from the archives
would break all the URLs. Options for working around this might be:

Blocking specific messages in apache using Alias or similar.

Switching to lurker (or another archiver) since that has persistent URLs IIRC.

Eventually mailman 3 will be released and IIRC pipermail will be
removed so switching to another archiver will need to be done anyway
in the long term.

Or removing the links?

This is used for teams.debian.net ...

If we do that, please let's choose one which uses the Message-ID field
as the key, allowing construction of an archive URL without having to
search the archive.

No, I don't know one that works this way with Mailman; but we do at
least have <URL:http://lists.debian.org/msgid-search/> indicating it's
feasible at some level.

Exactly, that's the thing I'm referring to.

Should I read it as "the only legal situation where it returns multiple
packages are diversions (the rest are errors)" or "the majority of
situations ... are diversions", ie. does it make sense to return multiple
packages in the absence of diversions?

I'd remove the sentence about where it has been successfully compiled.
It doesn't really add much to the description of the package, IMO.

Thanks,
