DazukoFS 3.0.0-rc5 posted

Hi,

Today I posted DazukoFS 3.0.0-rc5. This new version mainly includes
style and readability cleanups in the code. These change requests came
as feedback from the initial submission to the Linux Kernel Mailing
List.

The new version has been updated to support the latest development
kernel (2.6.29-rc3). However, the package also contains patches to
patch the source for Linux 2.6.26, Linux 2.6.27, or openSUSE 11.0.

Today I also posted a new patchset to LKML based on 3.0.0-rc5. We have
not yet received any major feedback from DazukoFS. I hope that this
second submission will draw some more attention.

I have fairly limited resources for testing DazukoFS. I would really
appreciate feedback about performance/stability for x86-based
processors (preferrably with an SMP kernel). If you have such a
machine and can perform some tests, please post your results here.

7 Years of Dazuko [IMPORTANT]

Hi,

The Dazuko project was created seven years ago today. During that time
we have seen a lot of changes. But right now Dazuko is in the middle
of its biggest change ever: the switch to DazukoFS. I have noticed
that this change has caused quite a stir among the Dazuko community
and at this point I am not certain how it will turn out. But I would
like to take a moment to address several very important issues.

 Dazuko 2.x

I have decided that I will no longer maintain Dazuko 2.x. I am only
interested in DazukoFS. If anyone is interested in keeping the Dazuko
2.x branch maintained, please post to this list or contact me
directly. I am happy to give full CVS access to the project. (The
website is already accessable to anyone.)

My reasons for abandoning Dazuko 2.x are:

- It cannot work with the current Linux kernels. It would need to be
  changed to piggy-back off another project, such as RedirFS, or
  become a kernel-patch-only solution.

- The code is inefficient and difficult to maintain.

- A path-based file access control mechanism is primitive and should
  not be used when alternatives such as DazukoFS exist.

DazukoFS 3.0.0-rc6 posted

Hi,

On the dazuko-help mailing list it was pointed out that the DazukoFS
patch for Linux 2.6.26 had a problem. It (as well as the openSUSE
patch) have been fixed and included in a 3.0.0-rc6 version. I had only
tested the 2.6.27 patch and the unpatched code, which is why I didn't
notice the errors. Hopefully the patches are ok now.

PATCH for BUG that causes kernel oops if mounting dazukofs on an invalid mount point

Hi,

the applied patch resolves a bug that causes a kernel oops
if dazukofs is mounted on an invalid mount point (i.e a regular file 
instead of a
directory). Please apply this patch against the recent dazukofs version 
(release 6).

dazukofs patches for various kernel versions

Hi,

Avira has already switched from dazuko 2 to dazukofs. Thus the next
workstation/server release is implemented to work primarily with
dazukofs and does only support dazuko 2 for backward compatibility.
We currently have patches for following kernels:

        - 2.6.24 (vanilla)
        - 2.6.22 (vanilla)
        - 2.6.20 (vanilla)
        - 2.6.18 (vanilla)
        - 2.6.27 (Ubuntu / OpenSuse 11.1)
        - 2.6.16 (SLES / SP2)

They all base on dazukofs rc 4. If there is on official stable version
of dazukofs we could start to port this newer version.

The patches will be sent in seperate mails.
