RE : is Oscar dead?

I'm porting oscar to centos 6.2, but I must admit I feel alone as Geoffroy is overloaded and has no spare time
to help.

Having help on porting oscar to centos 6.2 would be greatly apreciated.

So far, I've been able to reach the create client image step, but I'm stuck in this step as systemimage-oscar
has a problem with
/var/lib/systemimager/images/≤imagename>/etc/systemconfig/systemconfig.conf. The line
[KERNEL0] is not generated and thus the process fails.

I'm also stuck with modules-oscar rpm creation as it's very hugly. you need to be root to build it and it
modifies system files, and upon successfull build, it restores the modified files (/etc/bashrc and the likes.

I'm using epel repository as much as I can to avoid maintaning old rpms that could conflict with centos-6.2
(python2.2 while centos ships with 2.6 and so one).
1st of those packages were ganglia and torque. no value added in maintaining a generic ganglia or torque in
oscar while a maintained version exists in epel (fedora packages for RHEL likes).

Regards,

Olivier.

Re: RE : is Oscar dead?

Hi,

If possible can you please send the /var/log/oscar/ log <log file name>.

To check some other issue that give us clue to troubleshoot root cause.

OSCAR & CentOS-6.2: 1st steps

Hi, here is my work on porting Oscar to CentOS-6.2
All patches are related to svn 9443 version

Attatched files:
- update for oscarsamples/Makefile
- rpmlist for centos-6 x86_64 and i386 versions: inspired from scientific linux 6.0
- updated yume/prereq.cfg to take into account centos-6.2 where python includes elementtree in
python-2.6 rpm by default.
- updated supported distros
- added one Requires: in oscar-base spec file

Regards,

Olivier.

perl-Qt RPM (prereq)

Oscar port to CentOS-6.2, step 2

perl-Qt in the old rpm does not live in the correct default perl <at> INC. Thus it fails.

Thus I reworked the perl-Qt rpm. We should sooner or later switch to Qt4 as it is likely  to disapear in next RHEL IMHO, but for now, it'll do our job.
It should work on CentOS-5 and CentOS-6.

On el5, libsmoke is available from kde packages. This result in a conflict if pert-Qt is in system directories.
On el6, no conflict as it ships with KDE4 which doesn't provides libsmoke.

Thus, on el5, we use the kde3 provided libsmokeqt and as a bonus we have PerlKDE. On el6, we use basic qt3 and we build libsmokeQt without KDE3 (as el6 kde version is V4).

Anyway, it builds, and it installs without any problem on el5 and el6 without any need to update perl <at> INC path. Bonus, we also have Doc and examples packaged.

Attached are the spec file and the source rpm.

with this rpm, oscar_wizard does not crash anymore with perl-Qt module not found.

perl-Tk: choisir le bon package....

Oscar port to CentOS-6.2 step 3

For you information, perl-Tk from rpmforge (perl-Tk-804.028-2.el6.rf.x86_64) is bad: if triggers the following error if we click on the Help button in oscar_wizard:

oscar_wizard install
Tk::Error: no event type or button # or keysym at /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/Tk/Widget.pm line 1105.
 at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/OSCAR/Help.pm line 44
 Tk callback for .toplevel1
 Tk callback for .toplevel1.frame
 Tk callback for bind
 Tk callback for .button1
 Tk::__ANON__ at /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/Tk.pm line 250
 Tk::Button::butUp at /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/Tk/Button.pm line 175
 <ButtonRelease-1>
 (command bound to event)

while,  perl-Tk rpm from EPEL (perl-Tk-804.028-12.el6.x86_64) works fine...

I've informed Dag Weer on the problem and I'm now using the EPEL version.

apitest for el6 (and el5)

OSCAR Port to CentOS-6.2 step 4

I've just modified apitest for el6.
The only issue with el6 is that python-2.6 includes element-tree by default.
The we need a conditional build-require in the spec file.
I've also updated build.cfg (oscar/packages/apitest)

See attachments.

drmaa-python...

OSCAR port to CentOS-6.2 step 6

I'd difficulties to fide how to build the DRMAA-python rpm, and I finaly found that it was generated from oscar-SGE.
I've found that drmaa-0.5 was available stand alone.
After studying the dependancies, I've found that libdrmaa.so.0 is now more generic and no more exclusive to SGE.
Indeed, in EPEL repo, torque-drmaa provides this lib.

Thus I've rebuild the drmaa-python rpm with a depend on libdrmaa.so.0, and it works fine with torque-drmaa from EPEL.
started munge (not yet had a deep look into that thing) and tested examples http://code.google.com/p/drmaa-python/wiki/Tutorial and it works realy fine.

I like very much the EPEL torque packaging and I think the oscar torque package has no value added over the EPEL one which does support for drmaa. IMHO, it should be a good idea to use this EPEL packagte instead of oscar version (less mantenance, better functionalities). What about Debian side?
