Re: problem in installation

What version of OSCAR are you trying to install? RH9 has not been
supported by OSCAR for quite some time.

Hey Geoff,

Just a better error message, it doesn't really tell what's going on.

I did get it installed using a remote repo, after cleaning up things a
bit. I may have been pointing at the wrong part of the mirrored path,
and an error message that said something like "I can't find
repodata/repodata.xml in $URL" would be very cool..

Let me know if you have something that I can help with testing?

Paul

Hi Paul,

It is clear that a better error message can clearly help us to understand what
is going wrong. :-) Right now, i have no clue about what's happening. I know
that i improved a little bit the code in trunk for repository management but i
think this is not in branch. And i also need to check if the error message are
more explicit or not. That's sure is that it should work (yes i know it does not
help ;-).
I am currently on travel but as soon as i will be back i will try to have a
look.

Sorry for not being able to do more right now.

Regards,

5.1b1 on RHEL 5.1 x86_64 results

hello,

the hardware : 10 xeon servers, GEth plus voltaire IB.

soft : rhel 5.1 x86_64 and oscar rhel-5-x86_64-5.1b1,
using PBS and not SGE

result :

1. missing detail in the doc :
the hostname must not be localhost OK
but if you have 2 interfaces you have to use as hostname the cluster
interface name. it is causing PBS configuration errors.
It is also important to have the short domain name / FQDN in the right order
so that the reverse and hostname match (i guess).

2. had to create a rpm for network kernel drivers, and use UYOK
even if the driver was present unused on the server machine.
I would opt for a "choose drivers" step in the setup process to
solve storage and network.
I 've seen details on how to do that with sis, but not with oscar

3. using voltaire infiniband, added openib redhat rpms in the image,
will have to make it work later. will publish a howto.
ofed will be next step.

4. selinux was disabled but the script
/opt/oscar/scripts/system-sanity.d/selinux-check.pl
had a problem, i had to remove /usr/sbin/selinuxenabled to make it work.

5. cpush problem copying /etc/hosts,
causing buggy too long filenames impossible to copy in /tmp like
/tmp/192.168.2.109605192.168.2.108581192.168.2.107539192.168.2.106435192.168.2.105479192.168.2.104420192.168.2.103374192.168.2.102245192.168.2.101201192.168.2.1032688hosts
using "cpush -b" (without rsync) works fine

will update my howto in detail ASAP ... this time with infiniband setup

nice software !
thanks, paul.

This is weird. Do you still have the error messages? The hostname should work if
the /etc/hosts file exists.

I agree that the integration of the SIS UYOK into OSCAR is not yet perfect.

What was the problem? I have to admit i do not understand why you had to delete
the /usr/sbin/selinuxenabled script. Can you give us more details?

A new version of C3 should be released at some point. I do not know if this new
version will fix this kind of stuff but various bugs are fixed.

Cool! Thanks a lot for your valuable feedback. A howto about IB will be more
than welcome. If you also have suggestions about what OSCAR should provide, let
us know.

It is a peculiarity with PBS and how it likes things named. I have
some of this documented already at
http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/wiki/Support

As well as my experiences with using OFED, though I used the source.
Just as a warning, when I installed OFED, it installed the ROCKS
version of switcher (which I don't remember the name of at the moment)
and messed up all my paths. Just something to keep an eye on.
