Re: giving the user a boot option

Is this assuming you have booted linux, or you want to boot linux from a
bootloader that you give a command line option to?

I actually implemented a little mod to linux that lets you modify the
command line as it boots up, if you hit (e.g.) a space bar at the right
time. I found no interest in the Linux community, but it is a trivial
thing to write.

Re: sourceforge cvs and wrong web page

thanks for the correction. I just tried that script the other day and it
worked, did something change?

You may want to change pci probing to direct only.

Re: keyboard enable

Gonzalo,

I think it is enabled by default. However, if you have the following, then
keyboard will be disabled.

option NO_KEYBOARD=1

Seems like a lot of complexity, and I am kind of a zealot against real mode.
Has anyone considered writing the disk/video interface for Grub, to replace
the BIOS calls? Looking at the Grub code the BIOS calls seem pretty
isolated, and most of the code (I think) is already in linuxbios in some
form or another (although vga is there for only a couple of boards right
now). I for one would like a general bootloader, and Grub is pretty neat.

how can linuxbios load an image from ide

Hi. Now my pcchips 810 is working with IDE boot.

I've used the ftp.cwlinux.com rom images and mkelfimage to generate a
suitable kernel. It was put on the first partition of the hdd with
'kernel' as a name.

I would like to understand how can linuxbios, find a kernel image on a
ext2 filesystem and load it? What if I user reiserfs or XFS?

About cwlinux rom: do you think it's possible to gain some more seconds
on the boot if I build a custom image of the ROM, leaving out
unnecessary options?

About sis730 framebuffer: is it possible to set a resolution like 1280x768?

thank you

acpi shutdown + cool logo + nvram

Is it possible to shutdown the pc with an actual powerdown with
linuxbios on a pcchips810? I've flashed linuxbios from cwlinux.com (I
boot from an IDE hard disk) and I've enabled acpi on the kernel. However
the command 'halt' didn't shutdown the machine. I had to keep pressed
the power switch few seconds for it to turn off.

Is it allowed to insert a custom logo, instead of the tux one which is
displayed on the first seconds of the boot? Which file is the definition
of the logo, and is it the same format of the kernel?

Is it possible to set the nvram values to have the pc being powered up
at a specific time using nvram-wakeup or similar programs?

Sorry for the massive amount of questions but linuxbios is *very* cool!

bye

pergaps I've found it, grepping the source:

on pcchips787.config I read:

#
# these actions put the pcx image file on the front of the bios.
# the image size is placed in the first 4 bytes then the pcx file
# important that ROM_IMAGE_SIZE be set to 128K or larger.
# The logo file is called linuxbioslogo.pcx and should be copied to the
build directory
#
addaction linuxbios.rom dd if=$(TOP)/src/pc80/linuxbioslogo.pcx
of=linuxbios.rom bs=1 seek=4 conv=notrunc;
addaction linuxbios.rom perl -e ' <at> a=stat
"$(TOP)/src/pc80/linuxbioslogo.pcx";$$a=pack("L",$$a[7]); print $$a' |
dd of=l
inuxbios.rom bs=1 conv=notrunc

are there particular restrictions on the image properties? width/height,
bit depth...?

bye
thank you
