Re: Australian copyright law on computer programs and FLOSS licensing?
Hi everyone. Three months ago I wrote asking for assistance in preparing one of my lectures: On Sun, Jul 31, 2011 at 8:55 PM, Javier Candeira <javier@...> wrote: > My name is Javier Candeira, and I am working as a lecturer at Monash > University in Melbourne. Many people from this list helped, so I figured I could show you the results and maybe get some feedback. Here are the slides and the video from the lecture (sorry it's a non-free format, but ffmpeg does play it). http://hiperactivo.com/~kandinski/tmp/Fit1038_2011_week11_copyright_patents_trademarks.m4v http://hiperactivo.com/~kandinski/tmp/11_Copyright_Patents_Trademarks_lecture_.pdf I plan to teach this unit again next semester, so any feedback will be appreciated, especially factual corrections and additions. Thanks, Javier Candeira

Grant request: AdaCamp sponsorship
Hi Linux Australia, This is a grant request per http://www.linux.org.au/projects/grants I would like to apply for a Linux Australia grant on behalf of the Ada Initiative in order to partially cover costs for our event AdaCamp, planned for January 14 in Melbourne just before LCA. I request a grant to support AdaCamp at either the $500 or $1000 level as outlined in the attached sponsorship prospectus. AdaCamp is a one-day summit/unconference about increasing women’s participation in open technology and culture with a regional focus on Australia. AdaCamp will bring women together to build community, discuss issues women have in common across open technology and culture fields, and find ways to address them. In particular, we hope to find out what common responses and resources are needed and how the Ada Initiative can contribute to them. (If any women reading are interested in *attending* AdaCamp, please see http://adainitiative.org/2011/10/ada-initiative-to-hold-first-adacamp-in-melbourne-australia/ ). In terms of grant conditions: Be for the good of a project that relates to Linux or Open Source: this project is intended to build community among and resources for women in open technology and culture, which benefits Open Source and similar communities.(Continue reading)

The Age about misogynists
http://www.theage.com.au/technology/technology-news/trollattack-campaign-goes- viral-20111108-1n4j4.html Given some of the things that have been discussed on this list I think the above article from The Age will interest people here. Of course the most news-worthy thing about it is that The Age has published the article. Blogs like Geek Feminism have had more detailed articles about this. -- -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

However, I'm also forgetful. How much money has LA put into the Ada Initiative so far? Thanks, Mikal

Invitation
I would like to invite you to ask all people from all Universities to create an Open Platform to Occupy Movement. It should be collaborative to aim competition of ideas, see:http://www.innocentive.com/ http://web.mit.edu/mitpsc/whatwedo/ideas-competition/ http://globalchallenge.mit.edu/ It should add the animation style to easy the idea and knowledge transmission: http://comment.rsablogs.org.uk/videos/ And look for as best content as possible, see MIT:http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm Remember: energy equals matter plus squared speed of light (E = m x c2). Each small group has its problems to be solved. All they need is knowledge, energy and access to raw matter to solve its problems. There is no need for money (money is only an idea backed by confidence with some functions). There is plenty of decentralized energy from the sun: http://www.spectrolab.com/ We can change any matter with knowledge and energy. With knowledge and energy we can solve all our problems: http://group4labs.com/ http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/81ghz-diamond-semiconductor-created-20030827/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PILlP_yDZ2o Money is nothing but only an idea backed by confidence with some functions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money If all clients of any Bank draw all their money from the Bank, it goes bankrupt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc3sKwwAaCU&feature=related Even a child knows the sphere is a basic form of most stuff in this Universe. Figure it out: when a child blows a soap bubble why it takes the shape of a sphere and not a pyramid? So, why did we accept pyramids in all human structures (social, work, army, religion and all sorts of human organizations)? All those pyramid structures create and maintain the 1% exploiting the 99%. Why a dog doesn't see the chain around its neck? Maybe because it is too close to the eyes. But after it sees/senses the chain, it will only try to get rid of it if it is a free dog (it is not used to wear chains around its neck. All pyramids systems are nothing but a structure to slave people). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Girl_blowing_bubbles.jpg(Continue reading)
