Despite the mapquest link, the venue (Paddington) is not in Western
Australia. It's Paddington in Sydney:

Level 1, 3 Oxford St
Paddington 2021

Near the corner of Oxford St and South Dowling St. The best parking
is in South Dowling St around 7pm -- before that it's a clearway.

There are 4 buzzers at the front door on the street level, press the
top one with the fish on it and that's us.

Re: [Osia-discuss] Re: ATO - Software Compatibility

Not sure if you guys know about this, but the ATO have submitted
instructions on getting their java based CSI working under linux, and it
is really easy. As a business owner, I can now do anything I need using
the business portal native under linux. You can look at
http://itmaze.com.au/articles/ato/ for a good document on that.

I am pretty sure that the ECI is written in java, but was written for
MS-JAVA, and therefore not compatible with sun java. Since MS-JAVA is no
longer distributable, there must be something in the pipeline to write
this using some standard.

As far as the e-tax software, it works fine under wine. The trick is to
install IE under wine so it can actually submit a completed return.

Awesome! Maybe LA should do a press release congratulating the ATO. Positive
reinforcement is always a good thing :) Particularly in dealing with
Government.

Cheers,
Pia

wine won't run (at all) on powerpc. ;-)

(And I'm not about to (ever) install IE in any form under Linux, but
that's a different issue)

I'm afraid I don't know what e-tax is. I handle all of my company's ATO
liabilities via the portal.

Cheers,
Stephen

Hey Stephen,

Yes, the portal does, but e-tax as well?

You can run wine on powerpc with qemu, should you ever have the need. :-)

You don't need wine (let alone IE) to run the Java portal access side of
things. It works just fine with standard Linux Java , Firefox etc etc.

They did release it as a whole kit and installer under Linux at one
point, distributed it to a select group of users, and then withdrew
it.
