As of ALSA 1.0.6rc1, the US-x2y PCM device driver module exposes a hard
conflict on OHCI based USB controllers, causing a complete system lockup
-- kernel oops on an interrupt handler -- exactly upon starting or
openning the PCM device for audio playback.

I still have some troubles with jackd. I rebuilt a kernel without
USB_CONFIG_BANDWITH and now jackd start without problem. But sometimes, it

Summary:                    usx2y driver causes kernel oops
Description: 
While playing a soundfile using my Tascam us-122 (Alsa Module snd-usx2y)
after a few seconds the sound stutters and i get an Kernel oops. 
This is not happening if I use Jack.
I'm using the latest alsa drivers 1.0.5. With kernel 2.6.6.

aplay/arecord

This one is killing me. . . I cannot figure it out.  I have a Creative Live
5.1 (emu10k1) and am using driver 1.0.6a (haven't yet installed .7, about to
give that a go).

The problem:

arecord -r 44100 -f U8 -c 2 <no device> something.wav  -- Okay.

arecord -r 44100 -f U8 -c 2 -D plughw:0,0 something.wav -- Okay.

arecord -r 44100 -f U8 -c 2 -D default something.wav -- Okay.

arecord -r 44100 -f U8 -c 2 -D hw:0,0 something.wav -- Invalid format.

What am I doing wrong here?  Why will it not let me have U8 as the format on
hw:0,0, when it is the same thing as the others. . .
