Firenze Tecnologia [0], the Italian agency that has financially
sustained the AGNULA project since April 2003, will not fund it
anymore, because of the need to reallocate financial resources on
other projects.
AGNULA is now, to all practical extents and until further notice, a
fully volunteer-based project.
Best regards,

Florence, December 15th

After careful investigations around the performance losses observed in
the past weeks on the AGNULA main server, we have identified the
problem in the A/Libre Muzik source code, specifically in the database
subsystem. With the always increasing number of users and songs the
database has grown in size and the machine has proven itself not
capable of handling the load.

We are currently working both on the website code and the database
settings trying to eliminate the problem, but at the moment we can't
provide an estimation of how long it will take.

Because of the overall impact of this issue on the server load, we
decided to temporarily shut down the A/Libre Muzik site, to not
penalize other users and services hosted on that AGNULA server.

Of course none of the pieces in the database will be lost, and the

Florence, Fri 22th October

Due to some performance losses observed in the past few weeks on the
AGNULA main server, some core packages on the system are going to be
upgraded. According to the upgrade tests run on a sandbox machine, no
downtime should be needed, but some service discontinuities are
possible.

The upgrade is scheduled on 24th of October 2005 at 13.00 UTC.

Best regards,

On AGNULA Libre Music, copyright, unauthorized distribution and other stuff

                                                  Florence, 2005/09/26

Dear all,

as you all know, the purpose of AGNULA Libre Music has always been to
« create a publicly accessible database of Libre Music, i.e. works
which have been put *by their authors* under a license which allows
free redistribution and usage » (emphasis added).

The will of the legitimate rightsholder(s) (whether they are the
original authors or not) to authorize the redistribution and usage of
their works is the basis on which Free Software, Creative Commons, and
other endeavours, which try to propose "alternative" forms to regulate
knowledge, build upon.

Please let us repeat this concept: without the proper authorization of
the legitimate rightsholder(s), you do not have Free Software. You do
not have Creative Commons. You have something else, which you might
call "piracy" if you feel so inclined, or "unauthorized copying and
distribution" if you happen to prefer less emotionally loaded terms.

Lately, people have uploaded on AGNULA Libre Music some works which
very plausibly they do not have the right of reproduction and
distribution on.

This is bad, for several reasons.

The first and most important one is that if this behaviour continues,
we will most probably be forced to shut down AGNULA Libre Music. We
do not have the resources nor the inclination to set up an
