ThinkPad SL510 information and support

Hello,
I own a ThinkPad SL510 for 9 months now. Machine has several problems,
most important completely broken suspend, but it's not bad otherwise. I
owned worse.

Now when I bought it thinkpad_acpi was not loading, having some hybrid
IdeaPad firmware it reported "not yet supported ThinkPad detected".
Neither hdaps or tp_smapi were loading as wel...

Anyway I found the lenovo-sl-laptop project, but it has no support for
SL510, only SL500, and author never replied to any of my e-mail. Then I
found asus-laptop has some support for the SL and I made a feature
request here: http://dev.iksaif.net/issues/27

They were kind to inspect my DSDT and said there's no way to add
support.

So without any drivers the state is: no fan control, quirky backlight
but usable (brightness resets on each boot or X restart), no auto mute
when headphones are plugged in (I mention it because I saw this driver
has some audio control) and finally, most extra buttons do not work.

Working buttons: vol up, vol dn, mute, fn+f4 suspend, brightness up,
brightness dn.

Not working buttons: hibernate, screen zoom, screen lock, microphone
wifi bluetooth touchpad toggles, battery status and the ThinkVantage
button.

Yesterday by chance I read a claim on some forum "thinkpad_acpi has

Hello!

I'm not responsible for this module development, but I notice in your message a string, saying

> no auto mute when headphones are plugged in

The solution to this problem is in proper configuration of your alsa-driver, and thinkpad_acpi is not responsible for muting the general sound, when you're inserting your headphones. So just google for a right config for your intle snd_hda. Hope this advice will help you.

Yesterday by chance I read a claim on some forum "thinkpad_acpi has
experimental SL support". I thought it rubbish, but the driver loaded to
my surprise. I run Linux 2.6.36.2 and the output was:

thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad ACPI Extras v0.24
thinkpad_acpi: http://ibm-acpi.sf.net/
thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad BIOS 6JET77WW (1.35 ), EC 6JHT59WW-1.179000

thinkpad_acpi: detected a 8-level brightness capable ThinkPad
thinkpad_acpi: radio switch found; radios are enabled
thinkpad_acpi: possible tablet mode switch found; ThinkPad in laptop mode
thinkpad_acpi: asked for hotkey mask 0x078dffff, but firmware forced it to 0x008dffff
thinkpad_acpi: rfkill switch tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: radio is unblocked
Registered led device: tpacpi::thinklight
Registered led device: tpacpi::power
Registered led device: tpacpi::standby
Registered led device: tpacpi::thinkvantage
thinkpad_acpi: Standard ACPI backlight interface available, not loading native one.
thinkpad_acpi: Console audio control enabled, mode: monitor (read only)
input: ThinkPad Extra Buttons as /devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/input/input9

I keep upgrading the BIOS in hope they will fix the damn suspend. So
since the above I upgraded from 1.35 to 1.41 BIOS which is latest, also
before I dump DSDT and DMI for this request. They are attached to the
message.

Modprobing thinkpad_acpi made all (or nearly all) extra keys working.
This alone is enough for me wanting to use thinkpad_acpi. I'm sold. But
it also had side effects, i.e. the Mute button stopped muting the volume
and its LED would not light on. I'd love to see the support improving a
little. And thank you for making it possible to work at all!

Hello,
yep that could do the trick, but for this ALC269, or Intel Cantiga HDMI,
alsa driver is still not functional. Only one model makes this work (the
"quanta") but severly breaks other mixers and sound.

Thinkpad T510 microphone mute LED

Hello list,
while trying to use the orange microphone mute LED as a empty battery
indicator, I found that echo "14 foobar" >/proc/acpi/ibm/led is the only way
to activate this LED. What do I have to do to access it through sysfs? And why
is it a "unsafe" LED?

Well, it is usafe because you don't someone shadow-unmuting your mic and
keeping that LED on. You can compile the kernel with unsafe leds enabled
if you want.

I never tracked down all new leds, and lenovo started using some in
different ways. if it is supported perfectly by /proc/acpi/ibm/led, adding
it to the driver is really trivial. But I'd appreciate a list of the
thinkpads that have this LED, and reports that they all work well.

This LED is always off on my system, so one might as well make accessable for
the user.

As far as I know all Thinkpads with the new keyboard layout have this LED
(T410, T410s, T510, probably X201?).

Fixed in 2.6.37. Plain model=auto is OK to use. I could not find which
commit did it, doesn't matter now. One down two to go, suspend and
thinkpad_acpi :)

X61t ACPI-Events for tablet mode

Help, everybody.

I haven't used the feature for a pretty long time (no more lectures) and
now I realized that I do not get any

 TP_HKEY_EV_TABLET_TABLET        = 0x5009, /* tablet swivel up */
 TP_HKEY_EV_TABLET_NOTEBOOK      = 0x500a, /* tablet swivel down */

events anymore.  Interestingly the

  TP_HKEY_EV_PEN_INSERTED         = 0x500b, /* tablet pen inserted */
  TP_HKEY_EV_PEN_REMOVED          = 0x500c, /* tablet pen removed */

events still happen and are reported as ACPI_Events.

I did a hexdump of /dev/input/input8 (as that's where the sysfs-entries
guide me), these are the results of "tablet on"

0000000 96c7 4d34 0000 0000 8508 000d 0000 0000
0000010 0005 0001 0001 0000 96c7 4d34 0000 0000
0000020 8512 000d 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000

and "tablet off (Laptop mode)":
0000030 96c9 4d34 0000 0000 0259 000b 0000 0000
0000040 0005 0001 0000 0000 96c9 4d34 0000 0000
0000050 0263 000b 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000

So it seems like somehow the input is filtered away weirdly. Any ideas
where I have to look for it?

Thanks in advance,
Stefan

I have no idea whatsoever. It should not be thinkpad-acpi, though.

I don't even know whom to refer you to. Maybe ask in LKML directly? Use
the subject "libata EH running when switching VTs". If one of those VTs are
in X.org control, say that as well.
