IBM Thinkpad problem

Hello,

I have an IBM Thinkpad(64 bit), and I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it. Recently, twice in a row, the keyboard stopped responding and i had to force a shutdown by pressing the power button. I found the following sequence of messages in the message log around that time:

Is there a problem?

T510i backlight

Hello,

I posted the below request to the user support list, but no interest there.

Replying to myself: I tried loading thinkpad_acpi with forced backlight control. /sys/class/backlight/thinkpad_screen tree appears and works with hotkeys but no actual brightness change this way either. Might be the usual Adobe high quality code at work, but you might want
to make sure you're using the latest flash player AND that you've run
memtest on your box.

70°C is quite high, if it goes up any higher, it could be a problem.

You pressed NumLock :p

Yes, since your computer did lock up. But it is not thinkpad-acpi, and
I don't know what could have happened.

support for lenovo g560

Hello, everybody.

I've got Lenovo G560 laptop with Intel Core i3 330M cpu inside. I'm not sure if this is a right mailing list (so, I'd like you not to accuse me for that). I want to get clear, whether thinkspad_acpi support my model or not? I did not get a clear answer after googling for that. And if not, is any work going in that direction.

[PATCH] ACPI Thinkpad: We must always call va_end() after va_start() but do not do so in thinkpad_acpi.c::acpi_evalf()

Hi,

In drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.c::acpi_evalf() we don't always call
va_end() after va_start(). This patch corrects that.

It doesn't have any special support for the G560. That doesn't mean it
won't work.

None, but you can help. Upgrade to the lastest BIOS and firmware for
your G560. Send me the output of recent versions of the "dmidecode" and
"acpidump" utilities. Make sure to XXX-out serial numbers and UUIDs in
the dmidecode output.

Then, test the driver as it currently is in your ThinkPad, and tell me
what works, and what doesn't.

The driver documentation is in Documentation/laptops/thinkpad-acpi.txt
in the kernel source.

Although that codepath is for a driver source bug, so arguably it would
be better to just BUG().

It has never been tested (or hit in practice), I think.

Re: support for lenovo g560

Thx for you help.

I did acpidump and dmidecode (attached files sent to your email).

I' m running  :

uname -a
Linux zc 2.6.36-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Dec 10 20:01:53 UTC 2010 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 <at> 2.27GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

When I try modprobe thinkpad_acpi, I get this message:

modprobe thinkpad_acpi
FATAL: Error inserting thinkpad_acpi (/lib/modules/2.6.36-ARCH/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.ko): No such device

Even though:
 ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.36-ARCH/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/ | grep -i thinkpad
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 108338 Dec 10 22:03 thinkpad_acpi.ko

So I do have this module.

Even with --force option, nothing happens.

Today I tested that at my friend's laptop, same model, but running ubuntu 10.10 i386. Same results, and module is not loaded.

It took me hours to find out, how to get the /sys/kernel/debug/ec dir.
And all I needed was a simple modprobe ec_sys ....

Attached the output of the ecdump tool from
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/trenn/sources/ec/

Is that OK?
