I-D ACTION:draft-ietf-vpim-routing-10.txt

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Voice Profile for Internet Mail Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Voice Message Routing Service
	Author(s)	: G. Vaudreuil
	Filename	: draft-ietf-vpim-routing-10.txt
	Pages : 12
	Date : 2005-4-8

Voice messaging is traditionally addressed using telephone number
addressing. This document describes two techniques for routing
voice messages based on a telephone number. The complete service
uses the VPIM Directory service to lookup a VPIM email address
with a telephone number and confirm that the address is both
valid and the associated with the intended recipient. However
this service will take time become widely deployed in the nearest
term. This document also describes a basic send-and-pray service
useful simply to route and deliver messages using only the ENUM
telephone number resolution service and the existing DNS mail
       routing facilies.

VPIM Closure

With draft-ietf-vpim-vpimdir and draft-ietf-vpim-routing being finished I
now believe it's time to close the VPIM working group. Speak now if you
think otherwise.

Protocol Action: 'Voice Messaging Directory Service' to Proposed Standard

The IESG has approved the following documents:

- 'Voice Message Routing Service '
   <draft-ietf-vpim-routing-10.txt> as a Proposed Standard
- 'Voice Messaging Directory Service '
   <draft-ietf-vpim-vpimdir-11.txt> as a Proposed Standard

These documents are products of the Voice Profile for Internet Mail Working
Group.

The IESG contact persons are Scott Hollenbeck and Ted Hardie.

Technical Summary

The VPIM directory schema provides essential additional attributes
to recreate the voice mail user experience using standardized
directories. This user experience provides, at the time of
addressing, basic assurances that the message will be delivered
as intended.

The VPIM routing document describes two mechanisms by which a
sending VPIM system may determine the destination mailbox given a
telephone number. Both mechanisms build upon ENUM. One mechanism
utilizes an LDAP query to determine recipient capabilities and
retrieve address confirmation information such as a spoken or text
name.

Working Group Summary
These documents are products of the Voice Profile for Internet Mail
(vpim) working group. Consensus to publish the documents was reached.

RE: WG Action: Conclusion of Voice Profile for Internet Mail (vpi m)

Folks,

It has been 7 years since we started VPIM at IETF 43.  We have now concluded the IETF WG.

Our significant work ended with the publication of VPIM as a Draft Standard in RFC 3801.

Recently we have concluded the VPIM directory details.  These drafts (including IVM) are now with the RFC-Editor and will be published as RFCs in the next few months.

Going forward this mailing list and the website at vpim.org will remain to discuss operational or deployment issues.

Cheers,
Glenn.
