Proposed agenda for URLREG

OK, I haven't had a lot of feedback, so I'm going to put this out this
morning and, if I haven't had any more input, I'll submit it by tomorrow
morning.

URLREG Working Group
Tuesday December 9, 1300-1400

	Review current draft by Masinter
(draft-ietf-urlreg-guide-00.txt).

[Dan Zigmond had proposed a doc at the Munich meeting -- Dan, if
that's ready, please let me know so we can include it for discussion.]

Discuss draft by Goland (draft-goland-url-dns-00.txt) - how does
this fit into WG's stated goals? Is the concept of 'private' vs.
'public' URLs useful, and does it raise any other issues?

Discuss mechanism for implementation of URL scheme guidelines:
standing committee? Augment existing standards process? Perpetual
mailing list?

Briefly discuss new related items, e.g. new URL schemes proposed
that challenge existing assumptions or extend definitions.

	Review charter and schedule.

Let me know, folks....

Re: Agenda for URLREG at 40th IETF Meeting

I think we might want to reserve some time for URL Internationalization,
because the issue is bound to come up anyway.

Does anyone have a complete list of URL schemes? These
are the ones I found in a quick list:

RFCs: z3950 [2056] ldap [RFC1959], vemmi [RFC2122], imap [RFC2192], nfs
[RFC2224], cid, mid [RFC2111]

I hope the HTTP spec includes a URL definition

I found Internet drafts for:

ftp, news, data, mailto ,gsms, telephone:, fax:, modem:, service, lpr, printer,
tv, ldap, whois++, sip, sips, sipt, sipu, rwhois, videotex

Re: Agenda for URLREG at 40th IETF Meeting

The 'service' scheme is defined in RFC2165. It is being refined in the
internet draft which is currently available. So the scheme is already
a proposed standard.

[Fwd: draft-ietf-urlreg-guide-01.txt]

I posted this last week, but I haven't seen an Internet Drafts
announcement. Just in case it fell into the IETF-week 'black hole',
I'm re-sending it.

Comments on minutes?

Does anyone have any comments on the minutes?

Alec Dun did a great job of posting them to the list before the week was
over but some holes exist in them. Anyone who wishes to have their views
recorded please post your corrections/clarifications to the list.

Thanks.

WG Last Call - Guidelines Document

At the December IETF meeting in Washington, DC, the consensus of those
in attendance was to advance the guidelines draft to "WG Last Call"
status as soon as a few minor edits were made to it. Larry made the
edits (thanks Larry), and the updated draft has been published.

In reviewing the new draft I found a few minor typos (mostly in the area
of the references to the URL/URI syntax document), a few sentences
that should be re-worded slightly to aid in the translation of the
document into other languages, and outdated addresses for two of the
authors. Nothing that would change the meaning of anything in the
document.

Before these final edits are made I'd like to put the document forward
to the WG for a "last call" to see if there are any other issues.
Given the holiday season, let's shoot for a 3 week last call period
rather than the traditional 2 weeks. In other words, if you have an
issue, please post it to the list before January 20, 1998. The sooner
an issue is posted, the sooner we can resolve it.

Dan Zigmond is authoring a draft of the BCP for the registration
procedures and I'd like to have the guidelines document out of the
way before we start discussions on the BCP, if at all possible.

For those who missed the announcement of the guidelines draft, here
it is:
