I-D ACTION:draft-ietf-udlr-dvmrp-conf-03.txt

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the UniDirectional Link Routing Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : Configuration of DVMRP over a UniDirectional Link
	Author(s)	: C. Benassy-Foch, P. Charron, Y. Guinamand
	Filename	: draft-ietf-udlr-dvmrp-conf-03.txt
	Pages		: 14
	Date		: 28-Jun-02

Routers connected to a UniDirectional Link (UDL) such as a
satellite network, implement a link layer tunneling mechanism, as
defined in the RFC 3077 [UDLR]. These routers could exchange
multicast routing information. This document describes how DVMRPv3
works on this network architecture and suggests a different
configuration of DVMRPv3 on routers connected to the UDL more
adapted and optimized to this network architecture.

I-D ACTION:draft-ietf-udlr-dvmrp-conf-03.txt

Hello,

We have submitted a new version of the draft "Configuration of DVMRP v3 over a
UniDirectional Link".

The main changes are
* Addition of a section about the DVMRPv3 implementation used in our experiment
(section 2.2) : mrouted 3.9b3 on freeBSD3.4-RELEASE.
* In the section about the passive mode on receiver (section 2.4 et 2.4.2): we
explained that a new paramater has to be added to the standard implementation.
* The section 2.5 is renamed "when and how to switch between the active and
passive mode" : the first part describes when it is necessary to switch the
receiver from passive to active and the second part describes how it must be
done.
* In the section 3.1 "Application using a Reliable Multicast Transport Protocol"
we added that NACK messages are sent in multicast.
* in section 4.0 : an introduction is added to explain the two suggested network
architecture:
The first one (a receiver on the same lan as the feed) enables an operator of a
UDL link to have an active receiver under its control,
The second one (the feed and a receiver have an access to the Mbone) explains
how to configure this receiver to send multicast message through the Mbone
instead of using the GRE tunnel.

Moreover we changed the abstract and the introduction to explain that we propose
a configuration of DVMRP more adapted to a UniDirectional Link.

Do not hesitate to ask questions or send comments on this draft.

UDLR WG meeting in IETF-54

Dear all,

We have a 1 hour slot session during the next IETF that is on Tuesday
16th from 13:00 to 14:00. See
http://www.ietf.org/meetings/agenda_54.html for more details.

I am currently thinking of the agenda for this session. We have some
things to discuss:

* Celine (Alcatel) posted draft-ietf-udlr-dvmrp-conf-03.txt that should
take into account comments that have been mentioned since the last
meeting. Unfortunately, She cannot come to the meeting.
Substitute for her, I will have a small presentation about
the updated ID.

* I and Husni of Keio Univ. did the experiment of PIM-SM over UDLR.
We will talk about it.

* We have been discussed about a document that would
describe running protocols over UDLR.
From last IETF meeting, there is no update of general document.
We had better to focus multicast issues to make progress.

* Other issues

If there is anything else you feel to address, let me know before
Thursday, I will have to send the official agenda to agenda <at> ietf.org.

Re: UDLR WG meeting in IETF-54

Dear All,

Let me introduce myself. I am Husni, a student in Keio University.
I would like to have a 10min presentation on configuring PIM-SM on UDLR.
I put the document in
http://sfc-cpu.ai3.net/~husni/pim-udlr-config/

Thank you,

IETF-54 UDLR WG minutes

Here is the minutes of UDLR WG.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

16th July, 13:00 - 13:45 at Room 501
Attendee 24 person

* WG update(Izu)			5min

* I-D update : draft-ietf-udlr-dvmrp-conf-03.txt
  (Substituted by Izu)
					10min

* PIM-SM over UDLR(Husni)		15min

  Advice from Dave Thaler
    In case of tie break of metric, it is one solution to
    advertise longer prefix of RP or host route of RP.

  Question from Tony
    What happen more than one UDL?
    Solution-1 : split into two PIM-SM domain.
    Solution-2 : use different multicast group for each UDL,
                 and put separate RP for each UDL.
    Solution-3 : use MSDP

* Discussion
    If general document status too slow, how about to split
    multicast issue from general document ?
    ---> No objection. Decide on the mailing list.
