International SIP 2004, January 20-23, Paris France

After a setback in 2002 over 2001, explained by the difficult economic context plaguing the telecom industry, International SIP 2003 clearly recaptured the interest of the VoIP community.
Don't miss the 2004 edition.

The call for papers dead line has been extended to June 15.

IP-PSTN

I am doing my PG from Indian Institute of
Sciences(IISc),Bangalore,India.

My question is whether it is possible to surf the net
& simultaneously receive calls fom PSTN.This is
possible using DSL & ISDN. But can we acheive this on
POTS.

Right now we have an application where an internet
user is prompted of an incoming call. But i am thinking
of taking this application a little further by
allowing the user to receive the incoming call using a
mic & a speaker( Headset) same as voice chat, without
disconnecting the net.

Thus the calling party will be speaking through the
normal PSTN phone & the called party(internet
user)will talk on the mic.It will require VoIP &
certain IP-PSTN media gateways.

can you comment on the feasibility of this project.

I will be glad if u can guide me in this regard

Re: IP-PSTN

You might want to check out SPIRITS WG in the IETF. One of the SPIRITS
staple services does exactly that. Look at the Pre-SPIRITS
Implementations RFC.

Re: IP-PSTN

Hi Yogesh,

Yes, this is possible.
Infact the requirements for this service (Internet call waiting)
is presently being addressed by SPIRITS forum of IETF.

You can get more details from :-

http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/spirits-charter.html
