PWG-ANNOUNCE> XHTML-Print is a W3C Proposed Recommendation

If you haven't yet heard, I'm pleased to announce that as of last Tuesday, XHTML-Print was advanced to Proposed Recommendation:     http://www.w3.org/TR/2006/PR-xhtml-print-20060131/ Achievement of Proposed Recommendation or PR status indicates that the specification is a stable technical document, has formally addressed all issues raised during the Candidate Recommendation period, and has demonstrated that each feature has at least two independent interoperable implementations. The review period ends Feb 28 2006. Should this document become a W3C Recommendation, W3C expects to issue a press release and publish testimonials in support of the document. You are encouraged to take advantage of this testimonial opportunity.  In particular, if possible the W3 would like to see endorsements from printer, mobile phone, and CE vendors.  For further information please contact me or Steven Pemberton <steven <at> w3.org>, HTML Working Group Chair. A heartfelt 'THANKS!' and 'CONGRATS!' to all who helped reach this milestone. This new version of XHTML-Print is inconsistent in several ways with the current CR version of CSS Print.  I expect to make the necessary changes to CSS Print over the next few months, along with working on the CSS Print test suite.  Let me know if you'd like to help...  Best wishes, Melinda PS We currently have billing on the W3C main page!   Check it out... http://www.w3.org

PWG-ANNOUNCE> NEW Directory 'mfp' and process for MFP Alerts BOF

Hi,

NOTE:  As required by PWG Process/2.0, I've just created a
new short acronym directory for this BOF (see (4) below)
and copied all existing MFP Alerts materials there.

Please do NOT post any further documents on MFP Alerts in 
the misnamed directory 'AlertsExtension' - thanks.

Here's a quick primer on the current PWG Process for a BOF
(birds of a feather), which is the current state of the MFP
Alerts discussion.

(1) Send all email on MFP Alerts to the existing Printer MIB
    WG list (open only to subscribers):
      pmp <at> pwg.org
    To subscribe, visit:
      http://www.pwg.org
    Do NOT carry on email threads on "pwg-announce <at> pwg.org",
    except for meeting announcements (for wider visibility).

(2) PWG Process/2.0 is at:
  ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/general/process/pwg-process20.pdf

(3) PWG Namespace Policy is at:
  ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/informational/pwg-namespace-policy.txt

(4) Until a PMP WG project or a separate WG is chartered
    and approved by the PWG Steering Committee, MFP Alerts 
    documents should be stored in the _new_ directory:

(5) White papers should be named with 'tb' (Technical Brief)
    prefix, for example "tb-mfp-design-20060311.pdf"
                         (a) (b)  (c)     (d)   (e)
    (a) Required prefix 'tb'
    (b) Required BOF short acronym 'mfp'
    (c) One or more descriptive words
    (d) Required 8-digit date (in exact format YYYYMMDD)
        - avoids confusion with local file system dates
    (e) Required review version of document in PDF

(6) If you can only create MS Word or MS PowerPoint, please
    send them to me as attachements and I'll convert them for
    you and post the source and PDF versions

(7) Read access to the PWG FTP server is anonymous -
    username "ftp" - password "" (empty)

(8) Write access to the PWG FTP server is password protected -
    if you need the password, please send me personal email.

PWG-ANNOUNCE> OSDL Printing Summit (10-12 April 2006) in Atlanta

Hi,

This is an invitation to printer vendors and printing ISVs
to register for and attend the upcoming OSDL (Open Source
Development Lab) Printing Summit.  

Over twenty participants are already registered (I'll soon
forward the list with their affiliations) from Linux OSVs,
printer vendors, ISVs, etc.

IMPORTANT:  Registration is limited to 50 people by the
facility donated by Ricoh/Lanier.  Don't miss the chance.
There's a very attractive conference hotel rate.

The latest agenda, including registration and hotel info,
is in the directory:

For people trying to justify travel costs to their managers...

New information about the OSDL Printing Summit (10-12 April 2006)
is now posted in the directory:

  - updated agenda (OBSOLETES the PDF of same date)

Many more people have committed to attend (attendance is limited
to 50 people total by the facility size at Ricoh/Lanier), but
have not yet registered.  Please don't wait until too late!
