A new mailing list has been set up to explore possible IETF work in
the area of providing L2 network virtualization service over an L3
(IP) overlay network.

As background, there are a number of drafts that relate to this area,
including:

    http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-mahalingam-dutt-dcops-vxlan-00
    http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-sridharan-virtualization-nvgre-00
    http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-wkumari-dcops-l3-vmmobility-00

I've put together a first-cut at a problem statement that focuses on
the issues and potential work areas, without getting into solution
specifics. See:

    http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-narten-nvo3-overlay-problem-statement-00.txt

There have also been some related vendor announcements and

draft-kelsey-intarea-mesh-link-establishment

Hello,

I have submitted a draft for a protocol (MLE) for configuring
links in ad hoc mesh networks. This protocol is a bit of an
orphan, as it falls somewhere above most link layer standards,
which are concerned with single links, but below network
standards that assume the links are already up and running.
Ralph Droms suggested submitting it to the Intarea WG in order
to get a more thorough review than it would receive as an
individual submission.

MLE is in use as part of the developing ZigBee IP standard and
there are several interoperating implementations.

I welcome any comments or suggestions.

                            -Richard Kelsey

[int-area] draft-srinivas-intarea-gre-gach

Hi,

We have submitted a new draft, the prime purpose of which is to specify
how setting the appropriate ethertype on a GRE header will allow the use
of OAM protocols associated with the Generic Associated Channel (RFC
5586) on GRE tunnels:

http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-srinivas-intarea-gre-gach-00.txt

We'd appreciate your review/feedback.

Cheers,
/Prashant

Call for agenda items

Hi all,
The intarea WG will be meeting in a two hour slot in Taipei and we are
in the process of setting the agenda. Please send us your request for
slots detailing

* Name of the draft
* Short description of why you think the item needs to be discussed in
the intarea meeting
* Whether the draft has already been presented or will be presented in
some other wg/bof.

Thanks
Julien and Suresh

Re: Call for agenda items

I'd like a few minutes to socialise
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-carpenter-v6ops-label-balance/

"This document describes how the IPv6 flow label can be used in
support of layer 3/4 load balancing for large server farms."

It may or may not belong in the Ops Area and it certainly doesn't
belong in 6man.

Re: Call for agenda items

Oops, sorry, I didn't really address your questions: it has been mentioned
on the v6ops list but there has been no substantive discussion there.
So really we would like to know if people think it's in Int Area scope.

Regards
   Brian
