No, I don't think there are any technical ops issues. Indeed, I
think we probably have fairly broad consensus that, on purely
technical grounds, we should definitely be doing the sort of things
recommended by the referenced RFCs.

Re: example.com

I wouldn't have bothered writing and pushing through the RFC if I didn't
think it was reasonably important. Using real existing domain names can
lead to operational problems such a denial of service, if some test or
example is buggy and runs on the real internet and it may also lead to
legal liability if it somehow interferes with a company's operations or
is considered to dilute their trade mark.

Of course, there are rare cases, usually in DNS related documents, where
you need a country code example or something, in which case you just do
the best you can. (Earlier drafts of the document reserved one of the
"local use" country codes that ISO says it will never assign to a
country but Postel nixed all but the four TLDs listed in the RFC.)

Thanks,
Donald

We do for a long time provide auth DNS for rfc1918 nets and have
configured our caches to use our own servers to resolve rfc1918 PTR
queries. The idea is to block at least those customers who leak queries
for rfc1918 nets, but use our caches as forwarders to reduce the load
on the "official" DNS servers for the rfc1918 nets.

Is it BCP to also set up local DNS for rfc2606 names/domains?
If someone does, do you also setup replacement web services for
the ones running on example.{com, net, org}? Do you run a mailbouncer
for that domains?

Agenda Items for Vienna

	Folks,

Its about time to start thinking about agenda items for
the Vienna IETF. Please forward any DNSOP agenda items
	you might have to me.

Over the next week we will be reviewing our work item
status and I will get that out to you in summary form.

	Thanks,

	Dave

Hi, Siva.

There has not been any discussion about my draft yet.

I hope my draft will be discussed in this ietf meeting.
Thanks for your interest in this topic.

Re: Agenda Items for Vienna

Hi, Dave.

I am Jaehoon.
I submitted a new draft about DNS discovery and Automatic Host DNS Name Registration
on the basis of IPv6 Router Advertisement message.
: IPv6 Router Advertisement based DNS Autoconfiguration
     http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-jeong-ipv6-ra-dns-autoconf-00.txt

In this 57th IETF meeting, I would like to discuss my draft at DNSOP wg.
Thanks.

Jaehoon

Re: Agenda Items for Vienna

Hello Dave,

We (Mr. Park and me) have recently submitted a draft for Automatic
Configuration of Domain Name for IPv6 Nodes, called
"IPv6 Extensions for DNS Plug and Play". This draft is available
at the following URL:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-park-ipv6-extensions-dns-pnp-00.tx
t

The technique that this draft proposes is called 6DNAC. 6DNAC
allows Automatic generation of Domain Name, Duplicate Domain
Name Detection and registration with the DNS Server. 6DNAC
proposes minor extensions to NDP Messages. The NDP messages
with extensions are backward compatible. 6DNAC is similar to
IPv6 Address construction and DAD.

I am wondering if we can discuss this draft in DNSOP WG
at 57th IETF Meeting, Vienna.

Thank you,
Syam
