Consensus on value of PCE for inter-domain

Hi,

Thanks to those who responded.

What I think I am hearing is that many people, especially SPs, consider that PCE may be an
appropriate technique to solve some of the path computation issues associated with
inter-domain MPLS TE. It would, perhaps, be nice to hear from one or two more vendors on
this.

I also heard one or two reservations based (IMHO) on the fact that the PCE architecture
and applicability have not been fully thought-out and written down. Clearly we are not
asking for an absolute statement that PCE *WILL* be used in the inter-domain environment,
but we are looking for an opinion that PCE *MIGHT* be appropriate.

I will take this as input to the PCE BOF and as a commitment that if the PCE BOF leads to
a working group, CCAMP (as the WG responsible for inter-domain MPLS-TE) will help to
generate requirements for PCE in an inter-domain environment.

If anyone believes strongly that this is not the case, please speak up in the next couple
of days.

Thanks,
Adrian

Flurry of liaisons

Hi,

Over the next few days you will see a bunch of liaisons chiefly to ITU-T SG15 Question 14.

Hopefully there is nothing controversial about this. We are simply trying to open up the
process and make sure that our colleagues in the ITU-T are aware of the work that has been
going on in CCAMP and are letting them see copies of relevant drafts. Of course, any
feedback we get as a result will all be grist to our mill.

Please speak up if there are any issues with this.

Thanks,
Adrian

RE: L1VPN mailing list archives

Hi Adrian,

Your subject says L1VPN archives... and by golly you're
right there too! Those are down, I just checked, so a
trouble ticket for this is probably needed as well.

RFC 3945 on Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) Architecture

A new Request for Comments is now available in online RFC libraries.

        URL: ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc3945.txt

Future data and transmission networks will consist of elements such
as routers, switches, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM)
systems, Add-Drop Multiplexors (ADMs), photonic cross-connects
(PXCs), optical cross-connects (OXCs), etc. that will use
Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) to dynamically
provision resources and to provide network survivability using
protection and restoration techniques.

This document describes the architecture of GMPLS. GMPLS extends
MPLS to encompass time-division (e.g., SONET/SDH, PDH, G.709),
wavelength (lambdas), and spatial switching (e.g., incoming port or

This document is a companion to the Generalized Multi-Protocol
Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling. It defines the Synchronous
Optical Network (SONET)/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH)
technology specific information needed when using GMPLS signaling.

This document is a product of the Common Control and Measurement Plane
Working Group of the IETF.

This is now a Proposed Standard Protocol.

Provisional agenda for CCAMP

As usual, a lot of business, but there looks to be enough time that we will be able to
discuss the material.

Please send comments ASAP.

Speakers:
- Please have your slides to me by Tuesday noon Washington DC time.
- Recall that you want to leave some time for discussion. Don't have too many slides.

Thanks,
Adrian
