Okay, here we could ask for the clause to be changed to "binary releases" or
something like this. So once we have a binary release for a platform ready it
also has to be made available via desura within a week. Though if the packager
for a platform (like windows) is unavailable and there is no binary for this
platform, the binary can't be uploaded into desura either.

This term should probably be changed somehow to state that the signing parties
won't ask someone to RE the product and won't encourage someone doing it.
Since yeah, we can't tell anybody working on the project what they are allowed
to do in their remaining free time.

FOSDEM 2012

Hi everybody!
The last four years several Wesnoth devs have been meeting at FOSDEM in
Brussels. FOSDEM usually takes place at the first weekend of Febuary and is, as
said before, in Brussels. This year it will be on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th.
Commonly we tend to meet already on Friday.

This year there is a difference though since there will be a dev room
dedicated to open source gaming which takes place on Sunday. If you have not
heard about it yet, please have a look at the call for speakers [1]. Yes, I am
still looking for more speakers.

I am already asking right now because it makes sense to book the beds in the
Hostel/Hotel rather early (several thousand geeks do need some beds, too...).
The last three years most of us spent the nights at 2go4 [2] and IMO it was
rather okay. To help coordinating things I created a wiki page [3]. I already
know of several devs being interested, though it would be nice to start to
coordinate the booking of the beds in the hotel/hostel. Personally I propose
to again book beds in 2go4. I'd go for the 4/6 bed rooms which cost 27€ per night.

In case you have not been to FOSDEM yet and got no idea how much it will cost
you, here is a rough list of the expenses I had in 2010. This includes travel
expenses (depends for everyone based on how you travel and from where) as well
as expenses for the hostel, going by bus through town (to/from campus) and
eating/drinking during FOSDEM itself and in the evenings (those numbers are
based on what I got listed from 2010, so they might partly be outdated but
should give you a rough idea):

* Driving to Brussels by car, 300km per way (requiring about 35l Diesel): 45€
* 2 nights at 2go4, each 24€ (if in the 4 bed dorm rooms): 48€

Thanks for the reminder. I committed the patch (revision 52306). Do you
want to be listed in our credits [1]? If so please let me know which
name and email address you want to be listed under and whether you like
to add a nick/handle as well.

getting closer to 1.10?

Hi everybody!
I just wanted to remind you that we are supposed to be under feature freeze at
the moment and to concentrate on bug fixes while keeping compatibility as high
as possible. If there is a severe bug you can of course break compatibility
but please make sure to tell me and add a note in the RELEASE_NOTES (since UMC
devs should be aware of changes they might have to make or players that are
interested in MP should be made aware that their previous beta ain't
compatible to the new one).

Besides this short reminder I wanted to ask you what you think the status is
regarding 1.10. My current plan is to release another beta today or tomorrow.
Right after Christmas I considered working on getting RC1 out and I hope that
it proves to be stable enough to work on getting "1.10 final" out about one or
two weeks after announcing rc1. That is: I will try to be extremely strict
about new features between rc1 and 1.10 so that you should (if possible) list
a related bug ID for every commit after rc1 and before 1.10 is tagged.

What I'd like to know is which issues you think *have* to be fixed before I
can even consider going for the RC series. Are there any blockers you see that
got to be fixed first? Please make sure to tell me about them or they might
not be delaying me in releasing 1.10rc1 (and 1.10 "final").

Cheers,

Looking at [1] there seem to not be this many people interested in going to
FOSDEM. Because of this it should be fine if only one person books the beds at
2go4. The following people enlisted themselves for a bed at 2go4 (from Friday
to Sunday):
* AI
* Crab
* fendrin
* Ivanovic
* Mordante

Now we should just solve how to do the booking. That is I can't guarantee to
manage to be there in time on Friday (because of a possible new job I might
arrive late in the evening or worst case on Saturday). Because of this it
would be great if someone else could book the 5 beds in the category "4 bed
room" (which also includes rooms with up to 6 beds) for the 2 nights at
2go4.be [2] (either via phone or credit card).

Are there any objections to booking these? Someone else who wants to be added?

1.10 preparations: the release announcement

Hi everybody!
Since we are hopefully getting closer to 1.10 it is *really* time to get the
release announcement done. Gambit has done some stuff over the last weeks and
today Espreon and I added some missing stuff and improved some areas. Though
there is probably a lot of really important stuff missing so please point out
what you think is not there yet. If you want to you can also easily add the
stuff yourself. Just have a look at [1] to see the current draft for the 1.10
announcement.
Here is a short list of things you can do to help with the announcement (which
should be done rather sooner than later so that translation teams got a chance
to translate this beast!):

* Point out things that are missing.
* Add things that are missing.
* Provide better screenshots.
* Improve the grammar and wording as well as fix any mistakes you find.

As I said, I'd love to have this done *really* soon so that translators have
at least two or three weeks to translate the text (in addition to the work
required to translate the game itself...). With soon I mean that I'd love to
have the basic text done and ready for translations in say 24 hours.
Cheers,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic

1.10 release announcement now ready for translations

Hi everybody!
I just wanted to notify you that the 1.10 release announcement is now waiting
for your translations. The release itself is still some weeks away. I will
announce when I am about 1 week away from tagging 1.10 (so that you can send
in your translation updates) and after 1.10 is tagged I will wait for about
one week until I announce the release so that there is time for packages to be
created as well as tested. So don't worry, you have at least two weeks to work
on the 1.10 announcement. You can get the po files from [1] (they are also
available from [2]) . Last years translation were automatically used where
possible. So those who translated the previous announcement will have a head
start.

About 85% to 90% of the po files has to be translated before an html page is
created. I will (try to) generate the html files when you send in your po
files. Please send those directly to me, even if you usually submit your
translations via Torangan or someone else.

Cheers,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic
