a small wesconf <at> FOSDEM2010

Hi everybody!
Soon the next FOSDEM will take place. FOSDEM 2010 is a meeting of open source
developers taking place in Brussels, Belgium. It will be at the first weekend of
Febuary 2010. Last two years ago we had a small wesconf at FOSDEM[1] since Dave
was also holding a talk and was around with Lisa. That was the start of the
anual Wesnoth mini conf taking place at FOSDEM. To handle planning for those who
want to participate, I already created a page in the wiki[2], based on the page
of last year.

So what will we probably do at FOSDEM:
1) Some coding.
2) Some testing and trying to reproduce bugs / problems.
3) Talking about some features we would like to have and how to achieve getting
those in (also about refactoring and planning this stuff a little).
4) General "just for fun" talking.

Have a look at what we talked about the first year in my summary posted to the
dev-ml[3] (be careful, it is quite lengthy). If you got any ideas what exactly
we should work on at FOSDEM, please add it to the wiki so that it does not get
lost/forgotten.

In general you should start right now to make sure that you have some
transportation to get to Brussels and also got accomodations. Last year we had
*real* problems finding some beds when we booked at the end of the year (so more
than a month in advance). The prices per bed last year were somewhere below 30€
per night (just that you can estimate somehow). It would be nice if everyone
participating entered themselves in the wiki[2] so that we can coordinate
things. Some coordination regarding where to sleep can/should also take place in
#wesnoth-dev (since most of us are there anyway, right? ;) ). Here is a list of

New download service at heise.de: hosting of your files

Dear software manufacturer,

the heise software directory <http://www.heise.de/software/> is among the most popular software
portals of Germany. Currently we are expanding it further. We can now host your programs on our download
servers. You save on traffic and can rely on a fast (1 GBit/s) and secure delivery of your software. This
service is free of charge.

Currently the following of your programs are listed in the heise software directory:

Battle for Wesnoth
<http://www.heise.de/software/downloadbattle_for_wesnoth/18729>

Clicking at

Battle for Wesnoth
<http://www.heise.de/software/download/edit_18729?pswd=7c0452ef9b339dd9144a89d4e9d36e15&lang=e>

will let you update your entries and screenshots and upload additional files to our servers. All you need is
a free account for heise online.

Alternatively you can simply grant us permission to offer the files for download. You won't need an account
to do so:

All files on the heise download servers are automatically checked for virus infections (done in
co-operation with AV-Test GmbH) with about 40 virus scanners. Should these scans detect anything
harmful we will inform you via email. In this case we will not offer the file for download until their status
has been cleared. If the scans complete successfully your program files will be available for download

Re: Wesnoth has (many) problems with libsdl-1.2.14

Do you know of a better bug tracker that can import the bugzilla bug database?

Did the mac packager get his machine back from RMA? Did upgrading to
SDL 1.2.14 fix his problems? (although I can't think of a specific
reason why it would)

I haven't been able to reproduce the Linux input problem.
Interestingly in the original bug report he mentions that one of the
buttons in the game works, but not most of them, which boggles my
mind. :)

See ya!

Re: Wesnoth has (many) problems with libsdl-1.2.14

I did get my computer working again (new HD). Here's what happened with all those SDL-related bugs:
1. I upgraded to 1.2.14, tested things out, found that there were some graphics problems (Wesnoth code's
fault), and the performance was atrocious (not sure why; but my own game had about 5x better performance).
2. Given the problems, I downgraded for the release.
3. My harddrive died, and bug reports started piling in.
4. I got a new harddrive, and everything back how it was, and I found: I'd downgraded to an ancient version of SDL.

So in the last release I used 1.2.13 again, and everything should be working. So our problems with 1.2.14 are
not fixed, but for Mac at least, they're probably caused by how we do things. And all those "upstream"
problems are based on an ancient version of SDL, and can therefore be ignored. Sorry about that!

Re: a small wesconf <at> FOSDEM2010

Hi everybody!
Okay, Just that everyone of you is aware: Booking for a part of us is done. I
booked for AI0867, chrber, fendrin, mordante and myself at 2go4. Feel free to
enter your information in the wiki once you know where to stay [1].
As in the previous years we will probably somehow coordinate via mobile phone.
So please do not forget to list yourself at [2] (only accessible by forum
moderators/devs!).
Cheers,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic
