which is 1.35 IIRC

AFAICT, Debian lenny uses a boost 1.34.1 / 1.35 hybrid.
    http://packages.debian.org/stable/libdevel/
Might therefore be worth doing a bit more checking.

Yes Debian Lenny has both version. I also use Lenny on my development
machine and haven't ran into trouble yet.
