While I enjoy some words games (Upwords, Scabble and Buyword, in
particular), I am NOT a word game nut. My skills are average at best. I
find that some folks simply excel in word games and are just unbeatable.
That kind of saps the fun out of the games when folks like them are
involved.

Another reason, however, is that when playing with my game group, I much
prefer to play European style games. I play party games and word games with
family and "casual gaming" friends. My game group is more targeted towards
other strategy-oriented fare. I usually don't want to play word or party
games in that venue. Just a personal preference.

Re: Re: ETG 03/23/06 Gaming Report: Bolide, Ice Pirates of Harbour Grace, Boomtown,

another point about the way Greg's Groups rate games.
I was in the westbank gaming group for a 'short' while
and I noticed something interesting. With the
exception of Greg, AND of cource myself ;), there is a
group think going on. The ratings are casual ratings
said out loud around a table. Many times I thougth
the first person asked set the tone for the ratings, a
me ot. I wonder if hidden voting my makse the numbers
deviate more?

File - For Sale Policy Text

Spielfrieks "For sale" Posting Guidelines

A For Sale ("[FS]") post is any message that is primarily meant to advertise games for direct sale or to draw
attention to an eBay auction or a "Games For Sale" web page.

First, let us point out that there is a separate mailing list at Yahoo Groups, Spielfrieks Marketplace,
which was established in April 2002 to serve as the "classified ads" of the Spielfrieks community.
Spielfrieks Marketplace can be found here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/spielfrieks-marketplace/

For Sale [FS] posts on Spielfrieks must follow these guidelines:

1. For Sale [FS] posts must be limited to one message per person per week.

2. No game should be advertised for sale more than once by the same seller. That is, if you say "I have Password
available for $50" then you shouldn't come back a week later and say "I have Password available for $5."

3. No posts should be made to remind everyone that a previously-announced eBay auction is soon ending.

4. Any For Sale [FS] posts (to either list) should be for Spielfrieky games -- not war games, not roleplaying
games, not CCGs, etc. Spielfrieky games are "sophisticated board and card games, with an emphasis on
German or European titles."

5. The [FS] tag must be used in the subject line so that those who do not want to read such posts can easily
delete them.

6. For Trade [FT] posts are subject to the same restrictions as For Sale [FS] posts.

Members who do not follow these guidelines on Spielfrieks will receive a warning, followed by more drastic

I didn't see what you were referring to at first. It looks like that

Actually, Mark, I slightly prefer the original Ticket to TtR:E. To me,
they're both middleweight games and I think TtR fits that mold better,
as it's more straightforward and plays quicker. Plus, I think it looks
a lot nicer. I appreciate all the enhancements in Europe, but I don't
think they really convert the original into a gamer's game. I'm hoping
Marklin will do just that (or at least give the players more choices),
but it may indeed turn out that it doesn't quite match up to the first
game.

Me too. To use an overused phrase, I love its "simple elegance". I love
TtR because I can teach just about anyone to play it with me in about five
minutes, and have fun playing it. When the complexities are added to TtR:E,
there still is an enjoyable game there but it loses the simplicity that made
the original perfect as a gateway game. I rate T2R a 10 and T2RE an 8. I
still enjoy the sequel and am always happy to play it, but it is the
original that is brilliant in its simplicity. YMMV, of course.
