18xx tonight -- Lonny Orgler!

Lonny Orgler (designer of several popular 18xx games) will be joining us
tonight. When I spoke to him last, he was just working his way out of a
big traffic jam in LA on his way north.

I'm currently hoping he gets here early enough for dinner -- perhaps at
Trends or something on Murphy in Sunnyvale. Would anyone else like to
join us?

I should be there. Chances of dinner are slim-to-none, though.

What game was it?

A few weeks ago I went to game night and played a game that was very similar to Thurn und Taxis but it was some
variant of it (or just a similar game) that I can't find. Of course, I forget the names of the two guys I was
playing with. Maybe you remember me?

That wasn't the first night you came to game night, right?

Buying Tichu

Hi,

I found my stepsons playing a card game which closely resembled Tichu.
They called it "13" but it lacked all the cool cards like the Dragon,
Phoenix, and Dog. Also their rules were a bit, ah, informal. So, I
want to buy them a couple of Tichu decks.

I remember folks talking about how Tichu decks were precious and very
hard to come by. Is that still the case? I see some on eBay in the $10
- $20 range.

Are there any gotchas I should watch out for? Are there games called
"Tichu" out there which aren't what I expect?

Re: Buying Tichu

Tichu has been reprinted and should be easy to get (on Amazon or coolstuffinc for example).

Actually, it was my first night. I played a few rounds of Dominion and then the 3-player Thurn-like game.

I remember playing Dominion with you.  I think you played Hansa Teutonica after Dominion.
