Hi-

Im not sure if Im posting this correctly, but Im
having connection problems with the Quake+r0.14.1. Im
interested in just hosting a Quake2 server so in the
Makefile I compiled the source with only
BUILD_DEDICATED enabled and all other configs turned
off.

It seemed to compile fine and the './quake2 +set
dedicated 1' seemed to execute since it's a running
process. The problem is that no Quake2 client can
connect to it. Im running RedHat8 with GNOME2. I don't
think the video drivers are needed to be enabled in
the Makefile since it's just going to be a server. I
was wondering if there was anyone who would be able to
shed some light on this.
Thanx!

Dom,

After you start q2ded, does the server respond to commands? If you type:
"netstat -anp|grep q2ded", do you see the port it's listening on? If you
telnet to that port , does you get a "connected" message? Have you
activated the firewall in Redhat 8? If so, have you declared the quake2
port as accessible from the outside (see the lokkit RH tool for that.

Hello Vincent-

I was able to get the q2 server working. It seems the
filename for PAK0 was all in caps. =) So I changed it
to lowercase and voila!

Would someone know how I can setup map voting? or any
other type of voting on this server such as bots, etc?

Thanx again! Im beginning to like this. =)

I'm not sure what you mean by other type of voting such as bots.
Voting to use or play bots?

In addition to voting, Q2Admin adds:

Extended client to client private chat.
Ability for clients to trigger sounds to other clients.
Detailed logging and basic cheat protection.
Ability to mute clients, send any command to clients.
Partial remote admin and assistant access
withouth giving up the remote password.

I'm assuming the rcon vulnerability to rogue clients has been fixed in this
server source. If not, anyone able to download and use a hacked client (Or
if you know what you're really doing, write a script) will get your remote
admin password. If anyone would like their server tested, change rcon to
something cryptic, and email me with address to connect to your server.

This hole was pointed out awhile ago and has been fixed in the icculus
source (circa release 0.12 or 0.13) its in the appropriate release
notes.

If you have something earlier than that and are using it as a server, it is
recommended that you upgrade or use BWADMIN, which will prevent the $
character from being interpreted by your server as svars.

Their forum states ( Originally posted by Deathwatch) :
"BW runs a server executable which fixes the rcon exploit plus some other
fixes."

Perhaps when the (unofficial) 3.22 version comes out, we can all look forward
to another port. Right now, version 0.15 is quite a few months behind what
you'd have if you ported something from the DOS world today. Some people
swear by emulation, although I'd probably be swearing at it if that were my
only option.

Try renaming PAK0.PAK to pak0.pak.

Couple generic questions..

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago, I started playing through the single-player levels of
quake2 since it works fine on sparc/solaris8 and also since I have a
machine that's capable of running it. Yesterday, as I was playing my way
through the "Control Grid" level, I had the surprise to see that the
"blinking blue lasers" were in fact blinking a definite yellow.. The red
lasers were red just fine and also it happened on sparc/solaris8 but not
on Linux/x86 where the lasers are blue.. I'll try to find where it happens
in the source but I was wondering the following: Would anyone know if
those lasers are entities or if they depend on some specific code? A
screenshot (with correct blue color) is at:
http://www.planetquake.com/walk/walk3ss/ss332.jpg, or you may try it
yourself by loading map 'security'. Searching the code for 'laser' didn't
come up with anything relevant..

FreeBSD Nvidia drivers and Quake2

Hi,
I tried to get Quake2 with sdlgl working with FreeBSD and the new Nvidia graphics driver.
Unfortunately it always crashes with Signal 11.
Was anybody able to get it work or are any suggestions?

Mouse

In Quake 2, I was having a problem with my mouse.
I was able to use the buttons and mouse wheel, but if
I tried to move the mouse around, it would move very
slowly in the direction I was moving it. I played
with different renderers and I noticed this happens
using the glx render or the sdlsoft render. The mouse
only works using softx. I have a logitech optical
wheel mouse with two buttons. Any help, or
suggestions would be nice.

Thanks
