Re: Hexpack

Hi

They look very nice, still, I wouldn't call the Hexpack a piecepack
expansion, but more a new game system with the same core ideas but with
hexagonal pieces. I can't see many piecepack games being playable with a
Hexpack without modifications to the rules and combining both systems seems
hard, so instead of linking to piecepack.org you may want to link to
http://www.hexpack.org/ where rules for this system will be release
eventually.

Cheers,

-Jorge

Re: Hexpack

It is as much an expansion as they piecepack pyramids are.

"Hexpack includes 24 hexes (approx 50mm across) only. No dice, disks
or pawns are included with the Hexpack."

The idea is that you can use the hexpack in addition to your existing
piecepack in order to create new games.

A link to hexpack.org sounds like a good idea to include though.

Re: Hexpack

In talking with the folks at Hexpack.org at Gencon, they are still working
out the exact definition of a standard hexpack set. Until that gets sorted
out, we'll have the big hex part of Hexpack ready to go.

Re: Hexpack

How does the length of one hex side compare to the side of the tiles in the piecepack set?

Great, thank you!

(The direct link to the Hexpack item at Blue Panther's website is
<URL:http://www.bluepantherllc.com/Hexpack.htm>.)

That page has a broken link: the link to the Hexpack site has a stray
comma (‘,’) in the URL.

I have one complaint with the Hexpack images: the margin seems too
narrow, resulting in a rather small suit graphic in the corners, much
like one of the older versions of the (square) JCD standard piecepack.

This was solved in later standard JCD Piecepack graphics simply by
increasing the width of the hex margin and hence the size of the suit
graphic. I'd love for the Hexpack images to do the same, to allow for
less squinting :-)

Nice, thanks for the offer.

That should read “This was solved in later standard JCD Piecepack
graphics simply by increasing the width of the tile margin …” since
the standard JDC Piecepack images are square, not hexagonal.

This would need to be done by deriving from the existing images.
Unfortunately I don't see a copyright license on the Hexpack images
(nor even the JCD Piecepack images from which some Hexpack images are
derived), so it's not clear how to do so legally.

Re: Hexpack

Hello Peter:

The hexpack standard describes a hex as encircling a 2 inch diameter circle
(the circle touching the midpoint of each of the six sides).

That's the way our hexes are sized - essentially two inches across from
centerpoint to centerpoint. This means that each individual side is
actually less than 2 inches long.

Re: Hexpack

The Hexpack standard, like Piecepack, is public domain.

Mr Dietrich has been very kind to grant us a license to use the JCD graphic
set, so we can move the graphics and change the size slightly to address the
issues.

The proprietors of hexpack.org have also been helpful in this regard.

Time to get back to that graphics program and make some edits.

Do you guys have any plans to come out with other suited hexpacks?
The standard playing card suites come to mind.
