Re: BGG.con

I'll be Lobster Trapping too, with at least David, Mrs. Fair, Josh, Phil and
Tami. And for the record, it is 57 balmy degrees at the moment, despite the
fact that we got 1" of snow on Saturday , ,, , , ,

Quite. It certainly doesn't attempt to challenge the same masters as
current films. It doesn't need to, and will fail abysmally if you make
it. However as a modern implementation of half of a late 1940's to very
early 1950's Saturday matinee double feature, minus the thrilling /The
March of Time/ newsreels interstials, it does a well tuned job.
Verisimilitude, character development and emotional reality aren't part
of the equation. Just a wholesome hi/lo plot adventu-drama efficiently
wrapped around a pot-boiler with minor /Leave it to Beaver/ meets Louis
L'Amour moral overtones.

I enjoyed Sky Captain quite a bit, too. Yeah, some disbelief had to be
seriously suspended (brought extra cabling to the theater just in
case), but I very much enjoyed the pulp/serials feel, dug on the
special effects, and just overall enjoyed myself.

Sorry to hear about the weather. It was a chilly 90 today and I
thought about jumping in the pool after work, but decided against it...

It was only in the low 80s today. With the fans on and the windows open, I
could leave the air conditioning off. Of course, it was off for several days
because of Wilma coming through (along with everything else electric) but
things are returning to normal. The first DVD I played after power was
restored was the "Electricity" number from Schoolhouse Rock.
Our pool still has too much crap in it to use yet. I did finish fixing our
screens around it today, though.
We ended up with little damage, but if someone ever offers to have a strong
category 2 hurricane make a direct hit on you, I would suggest that you
politely decline.

I'll bid my 14 on the 6. My records say I win both of the last cards.
