Re: Rear Adm hyperyoda (O8 CA) 40 kills on the night

As Larry Bird once mentioned, "When I get the MVP, the team does
really well".

It's too easy for Pog to get 100 kills. No, I would rather see you get
100 kills :P.

Just to point on in a friendly way:

Top posting ruins the flow of the standard English written language
and makes following conversation topics awkward, at best. A classic
example of this is the following section:

	A: Yes.
	> Q: Are you sure?
	> > A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation.
	> > > Q: Why is top posting frowned upon?
	> > > > A: Top-posting.

As you can see the above makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and
makes following the topic next to impossible.

Might I kindly request that you don't top-post here? Please?

	Thanks :)

more.

My bad. Last time I posted in groups was in USENET, back in day via
tin. I replied, out of order, from email- lazy.

A poem I wrote about netrek

"Netrek"

Oh game sublime
You enchant me still

With base oggs
And delicate dogfighting skill

A game so balanced
In perfect harmony

Strategic richness coupled
With tactical mastery

Succeed as a team
All acting as one

Conquer the galaxy
And have much fun

But alas I doth lament
At its slow and sad decline

Now go young newbies
And learn a game truly divine

The more you invest
Greater is the return

In netrek every fresh ship

Re: A poem I wrote about netrek

Very nice! I really like it. I't not cheesy. Touches my soul.

This game has so much potential. We understand this by the the fun we
have and what it once was. As jrd mentioned, life support and
publicity.

At this point, the only idea that comes to mind to promote the game is
how I and others around me were introduced to it. I was enrolled in
the computer engineering program at BU. Hung around the computer labs
at MIT/Tufts/BC/Harvard etc. A bunch of foreign folks were enrolled
at these colleges too. Heard and seen people talking about it.
Someone took some time (a 10 minute face-to-face) to bring me aboard.

This is one concept, but with few of us in the right demographic,
it is a little tricky. I would like to see some netrek lan parties
designed to bring in newbies.

Other methods are to pimp it on gamer forums, paid advertising,
and to make it easier to learn. The best answer for increasing
ease of learning that I've heard suggested is a tutorial system
that would walk a newbie through tasks of increasing difficulty;
first have them steer around a planet change speeds and orbit,
then learn weapons against very stupid bots,
maybe a little tractor/pressor practice, then a simple take.
And the clients need to be a little more newbie friendly, in that
how to send and receive messages needs to be more obvious. Incoming
message windows, especially for direct messages, should blink window
borders or something, and maybe an audio clip saying "incoming message",
and of course a way to switch that off :)

Zach, I liked the poem!
