Event Websites

While looking for events in Ireland, I made this list...

BroCon: http://brocon.skynet.ie/
CONspiracy: http://www.uncovertheconspiracy.com/
Dominicon: http://www.dominicon.info/
Gaelcon: http://www.gaelcon.com/
Itzacon: http://www.itzaconeire.ie/
Leprecon: http://leprecon.info/
Vaticon: http://sites.google.com/site/vaticon/
Warpcon: http://www.warpcon.com/

Am I missing any?

Re: Event Websites

Well, there's Q-Con:

http://www.q-con.org.uk/

K2 doesn't have a website, because I'm occasionally very lazy.

No other cons are springing to mind right now.

Re: Event Websites

It would be good for the galecon site that is also a portal for irish gaming
in general to have a links section for these url's. Also I see that the
forum in marked as being in development, even though we already have an
irishgaming forum.

Re: Event Websites

Where feeds are avaliable, I have been maintaining a "planet" for
Irish gaming sites over at http://irishgamingwiki.com/planet/

Not exactly what you ask but where feeds are available, I have been
maintaining a "planet"[1] for Irish gaming sites over at the wiki[2].
It's an aggregator of forums, blogs, wikis, etc. There are set of
different feeds, one for forums, one for blogs, etc. Also new blog
posts get auto-posted to twitter using <at> irishgaming.

I know Gaelcon is often the go-to place for gamers online, but I could
also suggest using the wiki as a place to list sites. Many are already
there under the different conventions category[3].

It's worth noting that the IrishGaming.Com family of sites and stuff
is separate to the IGA/Gaelcon family of sites, which is why both sites have
a forum, along with all the college socs :D

(And likewise IrishGamingWiki.com is distinct and separate from
IrishGaming.com and Gaelcon) :)

Re: Event Websites

Maybe this is not practical, but considering how small the community is
having one go to site would simplify things. Considering the news I got
today about my course, I might have plenty off free time come Jan.

That's something I've been wondering about actually. What do people think
- in a small community, does multiple, possibly highly-focussed, online
discussion resources spur growth and innovation, or just fragment what there
is to its detriment? I've seen in a few areas that there can be lots of
interesting stuff going on that I never get to hear about because different
arms of the community keep to themselves. But maybe that's the way they
like it.

You know, you're probably right. On the other hand, having lots of people
with their own concerns makes for a more diverse community, and increases
reliability (if my site falls over, the other guys have theirs, for
example.)

In addition, as a subculture we're resistant to tight organisation. If
someone were to put a "one site fits all" solution together I'm quite sure
someone would rail against it and move to create something new and different
as an "alternative."

Re: Event Websites

Even if gaelcon.com was turned into the portal site for everything, I think
it would be an improvement. I appropriate what you have done mark with the
wiki and the planet. Unfortunately most people don't seem to be aware that
'planets' exit to aggregate content. So by adding igaming, the planet and a
page with convention links and a link to this mailing list would be enough
for people to find everything on the irish scene.

Maybe if the gaming shops have websites they can pay to have a link there as
well.
