The 2009 Irish Game Writing Workshop

Maydams et Missyewers,

There will be a Game Writing Workshop.

When?

Saturday 23rd of May.

Where?

Cork City (Waiting on confirmation, should be in UCC).

Why?

Cause afterwards there may be bowling and some nice sherberts for
those who partake?

Whose it for?

Anyone who wants to come. If you're a prolific writer, let us know,
we'd love your experience to add to the pot. Bring your scenarios,
please be ready to dissect them.

That said, we also want fresh would be writers to come too. And GMs.
Our goal is ... well, have fun, thus the Bowling suggestion. But maybe
in all the madness, a vague semblence of a style guide for Con
scenarios, might be born. But mostly, its an excuse to have a bit of
an aul argue and then retire to the pub.

cancelling play test

The play test advertised for this Thursday in Cassidys has been cancelled. I
only had two players who could make it in the end. If I get four people who
email me who want to play I'll put it back on. however I will be away from a
computer for tomorrow afternoon. tad

New forum!

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know about a new forum that I am starting up.
Currently in the process of changing domain names.
It focuses around gaming and comics in general. Roleplayers, MMO gamers,
Console Gamers and Comic ''Buffs'' are all
welcome. A new media section will be up soon which should be quite
interesting.
Please, give it a look, it is only up since 11th of May but if you hang
around you should see it grow exponentially.

Irish Game Writing Workshop

Good morning!

Just a reminder that the Game Writing Workshop will, as previously mentioned, be taking place tomorrow,
Saturday, 23rd of May!

Location: Newport Cafe Bar, Paul Street, Cork City Centre
(Across the Square from Other Realms - or where Rebel Alliance takes place every Monday night, if you're
more familiar with that! It's very central - less than 10 minutes walk from the bus station, and less than 15
from the train station.)

Beginning Time: 12:30
Ending Time: 17:30
(There will be breaks during the day!)

For those who will be staying around in Cork for the evening there will be drinks in the Mardyke (again, 10
minutes walk away), where Club Warpcon has recently been located, and there will also be the possibility
of Pool, bowling, air hockey and other such madness in the same location.

Come along! If you've never written a game before, or if you've written hundreds - we'd love to see you there!
If you've written scenarios, maybe bring one or two along with you!

Hope to see you there!

Noirin

Board Games Day - June 13th 2009

passing along for Greg

Board Games Day - June 13th 2009

There will be an all-day board-gaming event in Models Inc, Dorset Street on Saturday the 13th of June.

Everybody, whether completely new to board-gaming, or a long-term fan is welcome.

There will be longer-duration games starting at 11:00 and 3:30, with an experienced player there to show
people how to play. Spaces in these games will go to those who have pre-signed up for them, and any extra
spaces to anybody on the day who wishes to play.

Plenty of quicker games will be going on all the time, so there's no need to sign up to the longer games if you
don't want to. However, if you're interested in one of them, and are SURE you'll be there, then please do
sign up.

Players should have time to go out for lunch during the gap between games. Sandwiches are available for sale
in Models Inc in case of emergency ;)
The following games have scheduled start times,
and pre-sign-up lists further down.

Arkham Horror: 2-6 players, co-operative
Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure game themed around H.P Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Players
choose from 16 Investigators and take to the streets of Arkham. Before the game, one of the eight Ancient
Ones is chosen and it's up to the Investigators to prevent it from breaking into our world. During the
course of the game, players will upgrade their characters by acquiring skills, allies, items, weapons,
and spells. It's up to the players to clean out the streets of Arkham by fighting many different types of
monsters, but their main goal is to close portals to other dimensions that are opening up around town. With
too many portals open the Ancient One awakens and the players only have one last chance to save the world.

Re: Board Games Day - June 13th 2009

You should include Dominion. It's very quick and addictive.
I can bring along a copy if you want.
Also, no Agricola? For shame. I can bring a copy of it too.

International Discworld Convention 2010

Hi,

Not strictly gaming, but as there is a) a pretty big collection of
Pratchett fans who are into gaming and b) we'll have gaming at the
con, I figured I'd just throw a quick email out about the con.

The 2010 Discworld Convention (not to be confused with the iDWcon
taking place in Clare this year) will be taking place in the Hilton
Birmingham Metropole in August 2010. The con has been happening every
two years since 1996 and this year I get to run it. The event runs
from Friday (although lots of people turn up on Thursday) until Monday
and membership and hotel booking are both now open at
http://www.dwcon.org

Terry Pratchett is the Guest of Honour, but we'll be announcing many
more Discworld related guests over the next couple of weeks.
Membership is currently capped at 800 people (we've still a ways to
go, but we hit that number in 2008) and the prices go up at the end of
June (currently membership is STG£45 for an adult, there are
concessions), so early booking is advised!

Further information is available either on the website or by mailing
info@...
