Re: Digest Number 2362

Baz,

If you go to their website it says there's three different hotels
(Ballsbridge Court, Ballsbridge Towers and Ballsbridge Inn). Which one is
it, or are they all connected?

Ta,
Sorcha

Re: Digest Number 2362

Hey Sorcha,

All of those 3 hotels are on the same site - three different entities but in
the same complex. I think it's the Ballsbridge Inn though (subject to
correction!).

Gaelcon and the mini marathon

Baz,
The mini marathon is on the Monday right?

At least the hotels are on the outward leg of the run.

Any idea what site would have this year's traffic restrictions?

RE: Gaelcon and the mini marathon

Wrong race.

The October Bank Holiday weekend traditionally hosts the Dublin City
Marathon:

10,000 people from all over the world participate.

Re: Gaelcon and the mini marathon

yes, sorry about that, my error in checking. Friday nights in the
office will do that.

As Fiona has provided, http://adidasdublinmarathon.ie/ is the website.

http://adidasdublinmarathon.ie/general_course.php is the course and
traffic restrictions.

Closer to the day, i'd keep an eye on AAroadwatch's website, RTE and
Dublin City FM for traffic info.

The Adventuring Party

Several years behind the curve, there launches a podcast about Irish
gaming called The Adventuring Party.

It'll be a weekly show of somewhere in the vicinity of 20 minutes per
episode, discussing cons and events (both past and upcoming),
resources and games, with interviews, 'expert' advice, game reviews
and so forth.

The plan is to drop a show each Tuesday. If you've any comments to
make, or something you think we should mention or plug, please get in
touch by leaving a comment on the site or emailing me directly at this
address or shane@...

Mark's already added it to the Planet Irish Gaming feed, and you can
download it directly from the website, through your favourite
podcatcher, or through the iTunes store.

Thanks, and welcome to the party!

[Warpcon XX] Sige of Cork

Greetings from the Rebel County!

Next year's warpcon is a very special event, being Warpcon 20 and all, and we have ambitious plans lined up
for it.

In particular, we are planning on having a Very Large fantasy game, featuring an assault and siege on Cork
city. The board will be a X shape, 12 foot by 12 foot (the arms 4 foot wide), with the 2.5 foot wide Cork city in
the center. Cork will be defended by an alliance of Humans (empire and bretonians), Dwarves and High
elves, all resplended in red and white.

We are making inquiries early to clubs and players from up the country as it were, if any of you would like to
come down here and rape, pillage and slaughter our women, villages and cattle, in any order you choose.
Burn castles and towns! Assault and lay waste to the city walls! Throw down our banners and trample them
into the mud!

...If you think you're hard enough, of course.

Ideally we are looking for armies painted in county colours (any county will do, as long as you're not Cork).
Right now all of the defenders are looking like "good guys", so for fluff reasons it makes sense for the
attackers to be the bad guys (booo! hisss!), but if the coalition of assaulting forces wish, we can have a
bit of a civil war going (maybe we've finally declaired our independance, or set ourselves up at last as the
"real capitol".)

It's early days yet, and we're going to be playing a lot of sieges over the next few months to see what works and
what dosn't, how to make it a fair and most of all fun fight, but the initial idea is:

Attackers will be 2k armies coming on the end of the arms of the X, 5 foot from the city walls. There will be
outlying castles with small cork garrisons at hand. Attackers get "relentless advance" (a unit that is
destroyed may come on the board edge next turn to represent reinforcements). Once the outlying castles
are in enemy hands, the deployement range of the relentless advance moves 2 foot closer to the city walls.
