Cork gaming - The rebel Alliance

So...what's the deal?!
The idea of The Rebel Alliance is that hopefully people will get the
chance try out some games they've not played before, and maybe find
spots in games being run by others, or players for games that they want
to run...as well as getting to know others in the huge gaming community
which actually exists in Cork!

Along with getting some gaming done, it's an ideal venue for
socialising - the place sells food (finger food and full dinners) as
well as drinks, so hopefully it'll be a fun night for all involved...

The gaming night is unaffiliated with any of the existing
organisations - for example Warps (college based), IGA (Dublin based),
Cam (I don't even know where to begin with this one). It's completely
separate, and it isn't aiming to become an organisation like the
others. It will simply be a venue available for gaming of all types to
take place!

Where?: The Newport Bar, First Floor (In Paul Street, right across from
the Paul Street Shopping Centre, where Other Realms is located!)
When?: Monday Nights, from 7pm til closing. (Beginning on Monday, 8th of September)
Who?: You, come along! And bring your friends! Everyone's invited!

If you want to advertise a game or tournament you want to run, try
to find spaces in existing games etc - give a shout on the Rebel
Alliance forum: http://rebelalliance.cunningprojects.com/forum/

Excellent - I won't make it to the first few sessions, as I'm exiled to
Swindon, but I'll definitely call in and run some games later in September.

Gaelcon Charity Auction, 2008

Hi folks,

As most of ye may know, every year on the Sunday night of Gaelcon, we
hold a charity auction, with proceeds going to Irish children's
charities. In the past, thanks to the generosity of Irish (and
visiting!) gamers, we've donated to C.A.R.I., the Jack and Jill
Foundation, Barretstown, DEBRA Ireland, Crumlin and Temple St
Hospitals, and others.

This year - we'd like to change things slightly.

Why? Well, to an extent, we've become victims of our own success.
The auction started small, and over the years its gotten bigger and
bigger - in no small part due to the efforts of auctioneer
extraordinaire, Colm Lundberg. But what's been happening is that each
year, in general, bids on many items rapidly increase to the extent
that a lot of people are simply priced out of things straight away.

After many years service, Colm is stepping down as auctioneer this
time around, and so we're going to use the opportunity to try
something just a teeny bit different.

Previously, the way things worked is that in advance of the auction,
we (Colm and the IGA) would hear of one or two lots by word of mouth -
but over the course of the weekend, lots would appear one by one until
suddenly we had fifty or so. Colm would work his mojo and sort
everything into a running order, and by Sunday night, we'd have an
auction ready. And with one thing and another, with lots appearing as
a complete surprise to most con-goers, many people got priced out of
bidding or found they'd spent €200 on a rubber chicken they didn't

CONFESS 2008

So here we go, Year 5.
Our Con Director this year is Johnathon Mcgowan, a slightly mad long
haired type who generally is the WOLF in Werewolf games! Hes pulled
together a sterling line up with his motley crew of minions this year...

Our Friday night Meet and Greet booze up will be occuring in the very
nice, private upstairs room of Tobergal Lane, central to Sligo town. A
private bar and some tasty morsels. This Year we're also having some
Live Music from local bands. So start the weekend with a bang with
this CONFESS 5th year birthday party!

On the LARPs front we have 2 slotted games with a possible third
addition.they are "Sherry in the age of Automata"- a Steampunk Larp by
baz and the rather intriguing "Memories"-A twisted little Larp by the
devious plot maker Jude Mapp. Also for the murderous among you, the
time for KILLER at Confess! Murder with a twist!

On the RPGS front, theres a general taste of the old classics being
dusted down with the list including:
Castle Falkenstein
Planescape
Traveller
Shadowrun
Mutants and Masterminds
Fighting Fantasy
Scion

On the Cards front, Magic dominates though we'll be catering per
demand to Vampire, L5r, poker etc The Big Game to get in on is a
special Mirage-Visions-Weatherlight Draft(limited places on this so

Gaelcon: Bring and buy stand

In addition to the Charity Auction, this year, courtesy of Drew Shiel,
Gaelcon will be running a Bring and Buy stall!

Get rid of your old gaming stuff, make money (and give some to
charity)! Bring in old games, parts of games, or anything else
game-related you think might sell, to Drew, at the bring-and-buy
stand. He'll set a price, of which you'll get 80% - the other 20%
going into the charity auction fund. Anything not sold must be
collected by Monday at 17:30, or it all gets rolled up into one big
bag for next year's auction.

Drew can be contacted at gothwalk@... for further information.

Empire and are planning to play War on Terror next. For two players
games we have played Battlecry, Epic Battlelore, Command and Colours
Ancients, Manoeuvre etc. We are also hoping to get a session of Game of

CONFESS events

firstly in addendum to the last post.
The CONFESS convention is Sligos Games convention, we are in our fifth
year. It is run by the Flat Earth Games Society, a bunch of former
Sligo I.T. players who still game and meet regularly around the
country. Our numbers have enlarged over the years with friends we've
made at the previous cons from all over. The con runs on the 27th and
28th of September in the Southern Hotel, right next door to the Train
and bus station in Sligo. A meet and greet booze up in Tobergal Lane
sets things off on the Friday night, just go upstairs to the private
function room around 9pm. Music, Beer and goodness knows what else...

Secondly, just posting some info on one of the events.

We'll be running a special Killer Variant over the weekend.

Players sign up and are then selected and placed into teams secretly.
At the call up they recieve envelopes identifying themselves and other
team players. Some wont make the cut each time, the pool of actual
players secret to keep people guessing. An hour or so for the teams to
hatch plots/tactics privately and secretly.

2 teams, assassins and bodygaurds, their identities unknown at game
start except to other members of their own team. Team composition is
not neccessarily balanced so again you wont know if you got all the
assassins or all the bodygaurds until game finishes. The bodygaurds
will be protecting a Designated Target the Assassins must try slay
within a given time limit. The designated Target will be announced on
Mike at game commencement.

Kills will only be achieved via Stickers, placing a sticker earning a

New Irish gaming site

Hey,

In a bid to help promote the hobby and Irish gaming, a new website has
been set up to advertise and desiminate information on upcoming events
& results from tournaments. The emphasis for the moment is on
Wargaming but we're hoping to expand that over time. As an example of
this, we've posted the details for Confess and we want to update it
monthly with forthcoming events.
The website is www.modelworld.tv
Have a look and see what you think. We're especially keen to get info
on Wargaming tournaments at Con's and their results. We hope you like
what you see and that it will prove useful to the whole community.
