RE: Gaelcon 2008 - Game Submissions

None that I'm aware of. However you might be best advised to post this as a separate topic, rather than as a
reply to the Gaelcon topic.

Though if you haven't found a game by October, Gaelcon would certainly be a good place to try!

Looking for a roleplaying group... Northside.

Hi everyone,

Well, as the subject says, I am looking for a roleplaying group on the Northside.
I live in Portmarnock, but I have a car, and I am prepared to travel to get a game in.

I am 31, and I am looking for a mature roleplaying group. (My days of hack 'n slash munchkin gaming are long
gone.) I have played a lot of different games, and I have GMed almost everything I have played. Personal
favourites are Shadowrun, DnD, Cyberpunk, Serenity, Cthulu.... but almost anything goes.

If you are looking for some fresh blood for your group... or if you are simply looking to form a group... I
might be able to rustle up one other player.
Drop me a mail, and we can talk.
:)

Ciao
Ez

So what is the best way to form a new RPG group?

As per the subject, what methods do people use to form a new RPG group
or find a group to join? Do people use online methods like
nearbygamers.com, this list or is all through local clubs, conventions
and flgs?

I'm quite curious because my own regular group haven't met up in six
months and it's not looking likely we'll startup again. However I'm
living out in the sticks of Wicklow and everything is centered around
Dublin.

My current gaming group met up mostly through this list, but that was when there was a lot more traffic.

I'd guess that clubs are probably the best place to meet these days, unless you're lucky enough to have a
dedicated FLGS near you.

Hi Mark,

What part of the sticks of Wicklow are we talking about here? I'm in Bray
myself.

Re: So what is the best way to form a new RPG group?

FLGS?

For Dublin, that'd be... Sub City. For RPGs, anyway. There *are* no
others. Okay, wargamers have it a bit easier, there's the Model place
on Dorset St, and GW. But since 4th Dimension closed...

There's also the clubs, of course - Cassidys, for example... might
well be possible to head in to one or two and seek fellow
Wicklow-based gamers?

Cheers,

Anton

Models Inc, which is starting to stock RPGs and card games too.

I'd hazard a guess there's at least some crossover between RPGers and
Wargamers, so asking around in there couldn't hurt any. I'm pretty
sure there used to some D&D players in the Guild, but I'm not 100%
sure if they've come along to Models Inc or not. I *think* they have,
but I couldn't swear to it.

Re: So what is the best way to form a new RPG group?

Most of the University clubs/societies are more than happy to accommodate
non-student members, and they often have people looking for RPG groups,
though of course with the summer holidays starting it may be a little
harder. still, try http://blogcoven.com/gamers for Trinity Gamers forum.
They might be able to help.

See, the thing is, for me, I rarely go into the city these days.
Occasionally I might go in with the kids on the weekend, but it'd be a
nightmare getting from work into town during the week (and then back
home again). I use to cross the city from the south side to DCU to
game once a week. I'd always be late (due to rush hour traffic) and
I'd always have to leave early and I'd be knackered the next day, to
the point I wasn't sure if it was worth it.

Do Model Inc, Cassidys and/or Sub City run notice-boards of some description?
